BAYTOWN, Texas (AP) — A 14-year-old girl gave birth in a restroom at her junior high, and the baby boy cried once before she tried to flush him down the toilet, killing him, officials said Thursday.
An autopsy confirmed the baby was alive when born Wednesday at Cedar Bayou Junior High in Baytown, near Houston. The boy was probably full term and cried before the mother, an eighth-grader, tried to flush him, said police Lt. Eric Freed.
The mother was taken to a hospital. People who knew her at school said she wore baggy clothing, and nobody suspected she was pregnant, The Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

it's a little OT, but I thought this board could get some interesting convo out of it.
OK I'll Bite (not too hard though ;)
>>Like HAD she had an abortion, she wouldn't be facing Capital Murder charges now.<<
sure, also had she had the baby in a hospital and raised she would not be facing charges, had she dropped it off at safe haven (I think Texas has them) she would not be facing charges, had she given it up for adoption no charges. Abortion is not the only way she could avoid charges. heck she could have delivered in a more secluded area and no one would know (NOT ADVOCATING THIS CHOICE)
>>Where are the parents? What do they think? Had they known would they have done something? etc<<
her parents could be any where. Maybe she did it because she wanted to abort and they stopped her (that is a parental notification issue) Maybe they are strung out drug addicts and could care less, maybe they are in mourning for their grandchild.
Unless the parents knew and in some way played a part in her decision I don't think they share any blame.
Also what about the baby daddy? It is just as likely he played a role in this. MAybe she wanted to adopt out and he said no and she felt trapped.

I meant to ask what you think. It is not fair to stir the pot and run LOL,
besides we could use some fresh perspective as we usually know what each other is going to say before it is typed.

I don't think it's sad.
aww you're no fun. ;-)
Well, it makes me feel pretty sick. My Girl Scouts are not far from that age (the youngest is 15 and the oldest just turned 17), and I can't imagine how any of them would have handled themselves in that situation. I feel very sorry for both her and her baby. I agree that it seems like of silly that her parents would not have known about it somehow, but teens can be pretty good at concealing things.
I would not be seeking retribution against her, especially not the death penalty. 14-year-olds don't know their a$$es from a hole in the ground. This girl needs help, not to rot in prison for the rest of her life.

Thanks
While I think the death penalty is over the top (i would change my mind if she was older) I do think there should be SOME retribution for this baby as well as some psychiatric care.
I feel for her having also been pregnant at that age but there is no excusing what she did

"The girl lives in Texas in the United States. There is support all over the place that she could have taken or sought."
That's true, but it just makes me wonder what really happened. As another poster said there are many MANY other things she could have done that would have been much better. I can't understand why she would actually birth a baby and attempt to flush them down the toilet. Why wouldn't she take advantage of the support that was already in place? Heck, she could have even walked down the hall with the baby and....well I won't get into all the other things she could have done, but I just don't understand why she would even try to do what she did. Maybe there was something wrong with her psychologically?? Its beyond me.
