Wouldn't that depend on if the choice on those couples were truly indicative of the *real* numbers, or were they pre-determined & chosen just for that diversity angle?

Most of the adoptions/adoptees that I know in my neck o'the woods are white or Asian adoptions from Russia or Asia.

I guess I would want to ask why you are mentioning this in the abortion debate? why under the debate area?adoption really has nothing to do with abortion? so I am just wondering why you mentioned it where you did.

it is wonderful to think though that people are more willing to adopt ANY baby, and not just the so-called "perfect" baby. I would like to see more children of all ages being adopted.

My opinion on this is that in the past, the focus was on placing black or biracial children into black homes which meant a lot of kids were unadoptable to many couples.

Unfortunately a segment of *three* on television doesnt mean "jack" when it comes to whether or not adoption is taking a "turn for the better." I hope it is! I truly do. But the reality is that there are plenty of kids out there waiting to be adopted. But *not* many healthy white infants as the demand outstrips the "supply."

Unfortunately if you give birth to a black or hispanic child you might have trouble getting it adopted before it winds up in the foster system. If it has health problems, its more likely than not to wind up growing up in the foster system. Very sad.

Here's a bit of data to go with the above:

http://www.casey.org/cnc/quick_facts/adoption_statistics.htm

Of children waiting to be adopted, only 3% are infants, 45% are black (even though blacks only make up 25% of

the US population or thereabouts).

Actually it was three seperate episodes ... but I agree it doesn't mean *jack* or isn't exactly proof.

It makes me so angry that some states will not allow white people to adopt "ethnic" children. GGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!! I wouldn't have a problem with a black couple adopting a white child..it's so stupid. My ex husband was 1/4 native. I am white. I'm raising our children who are 1/8 native. I do my best to expose them to native culture..they go to a native school etc...even though they look white I know it's a part of who they are and respect that. I think many white parents are capable of this...whether the child is biologically theirs or not. And lets fact it..not all black/hispanic/ethnic people teach their culture to their OWN kids.
