what it really means to be pro-choice

To be pro-choice is to believe in a womans rights to make the best choices for herself and her family whether you agree with them or not. It isn't just about abortion, but all the choices a woman has to make. If one choice were to be taken away from her then wouldn't they all (choices) be comprimised?

I would venture to say that a lot if not most people who are pro-choice are not hoping for (or advocating) more abortions nor do they have anything against the unborn, they are just trying to protect a womans right to have a choice regarding her life.

For myself - and only for myself - I use the label "pro-choice" WRT reproductive decisions.

I think that PL's often try to throw in the red-herring that if we are PC - that's license for a free-for-all in ALL matters.

"I've seen that go both ways...there are peoole who claim to be PL......and from certain things that come flyinf out of thier mouth you know it has less to do with " saving/ protecting" the fetus/baby then it has to do with thier gross need to have control over another woman's body."

And *PUNISH* the woman for getting pregnant.

BTW OP, Great post!

I honestly don't think that taking one particular choice away from women means that all our choices are compromised. I don't think the way I do about abortion to protect a woman's right to choose. I feel the way I do about abortion to protect the welfare of women, in general.

I would certainly hope that any PC'er's would not advocate more abortions...how sad would that be!! Some are probably trying to protect the right to choose. I actually vote PC for lack of a better option. I think that if abortions were outlawed, they would still happen...only with more tradgedies & greater loss of life due to hazardous conditioins. I wish there was a way we could revise the law, so that the abortion process would be more selective...but, I don't see that as a realistic option. So, alas, I'm PC.

Right on! Pro-choice totally does NOT mean pro-abortion. Too many people think that just because someone is pro-choice, the only choice they are making is about abortion.

NEWS FLASH to them! Any choice a woman makes defending her body, mind, freedom, and place in society is pro-choice.
