I just saw this commercial for the baby borrowers. it looks like some show to teach teens about being parent or to try to get them not have kids early. i'm wondering if this show will get kids to put their babies up for adoption or what. i think what we really want is to teach safe sex. i hope this show is encouraging this.

Myself and all my friends except one would have loved that. No deterrent there for any of us.

I think trying to scare kids into birth control is pointless. Heck I think birth control itself should be a secondary concern. I am far more concerned about my kids getting an STD and most STD prevention can also prevent pregnancy.

Also I have to add that I was 19 and working in a daycare when I got pregnant with Ethan.

I think young teens should have to put in a weeks worth of time in a daycare setting, they can get school credit for it since they'll learn about child care or child development....and not doing the fun stuff like playing with the kids either. I had two younger sisters and that was enough for me not to want kids anytime soon :)

Well, I hope they aren't hoping this show is not an Instruction Manual or educational tool.

I get paid for it now but I never got paid for it when I was a kid. I am the oldest of 6 (grew up with 4) and I put in many hours of slave labor. Now it did not make me WANT to get pregnant in high school but when I did get pregnant I never panicked about if I could handle it because it wasn't a question to me. I had BTDT IRT midnight feedings, potty training, colic, late night ER visits, and all that jazz and knew what I was getting into. I had no romanticized visions of parenthood but I also recognized it was something I was capable of doing should I have to.

While I think these kids need a reality check that teen parenthood is not desirable if the purpose of the show is simply a scare tactic then I feel it could backfire on some people.

On the upside though my mother never complained about having me watch my brother and sisters she was 1000% comfortable with it

I imagine you get paid for it, and probably don't have to listen to people complain that they'd rather get "good" daycare, but you're all they can afford.

I will be repaid, though, if said nephew (now 15) grows up and DOES NOT HAVE CHILDREN WHILE STILL A TEENAGER.

Really? Working with kids always made me wonder why people made it sound so hard. A situation like that would have had the opposite affect on me

I would rather hope it would prompt the teens not to get pregnant/get someone pregnant in the first place. I babysat my six-month-old nephew for three months when I was 14, and that was the best contraception ever.

Yeah, I was talking about this in another forum, but it is an interesting concept and ripe for debate!

I don't think this show is aimed at the kids who are already experiencing an unplanned pregnancy or those who are already parenting...or those trying to make a choice between parenting, abortion, or adoption. I think this show is aimed specifically at the groups of teens who are not yet pregnant but who are "trying" to get pregnant because of a misguided idea of how great babies are. It's kind of to show them both sides of the story if you will.

I saw the commercial and it looks like an interesting concept.

It should convince these particular kids that babies aren't all hearts and roses. Don't know what impact it would have on any non-participating teens, though.
