Those of you who formula feed.....or not, I guess. How do they rank?? Whether name-brand or generic, soy or milk-based, DHA/ARA......what is your opinion??

Similac Advanced is what I have chosen for this baby....

I will start with this...I'm going to tell my hospital and write in on my admission forms. We chose Enfamil with our first DS and it was great. But after doing quite a bit of reading both by myself and my sister we both really liked the similac advanced, it has some components that are closer to breastmilk unlike other brands.

I'd not be opposed personally to using store name brands providing I knew EXACTLY what company makes it! For instance, I buy Walmart milk because I know it is DEANS. I buy Walmart cheese because I know it is the same cheese that is in the Kraft & Sargento bags. And thru the tons of baking I do (I don't really like to cook meals, but I love to bake desserts and goodies and make homemade candies LOL) I am a firm believer in both baking test and taste that Walmart chocolate chips *are* made by Nestle, which I love! So yes, *if* I knew Walmart's Parents Choice formula was actually Similac just under their label....I'd buy it. It would be the exact same product for less dollars. I'm always willing to save a penny and better yet a quarter lOL

This was 9 years ago, but I really liked the carnation formula for DD#1. It didn't have that yucky formula smell (& yes, to me formula stinks) and it looked more like milk. I had started Enfamil w/ her after she weaned & it was gray & smelly. I actually tried the Carnation because I had been given a coupon & liked it so much I stuck with it. I had signed up for the Carnation club w/ this baby JIC BF didn;t work out this time either.

more of a question...

from a nutritional standpoint....i thought they were ALL the same? and, had to be because of fda requirements. that said, does brand *really* matter?

FDA has a MINIMUM requirement. However, formula makers can meet or exceed it.

Similac Advance is closer to breastmilk with what it has in it...

compared to other formulas from the little reading I've done thus far (I'm pretty sure I will use Similac Advance this time....but I'll continue to read until delivery in July).

We tried the Similac Advance b/c we had samples of it, but it made DD gassy and constipated. We're using the Carnation Good Start now, and she tolerates that very well. I've been told that the WalMart stuff is fine, but I don't really want to mess with a good thing! We've already transitioned her from EBM to Similac to Good Start- it's too much for her poor belly!

i'm curious? who publishes what you are reading that says one brand is closer to bm than another? studies? clinical trials? or, does it come from the manufacturer itself? i've not been able to locate any real 3rd party overview....where do they exist?

Similac Advanced unlike regular Similac and Enfamil (for example) has two special nutriets found in breast milk, DHA and ARA.

I've read this at several different sources and my sister was the one who first pointed it out back a few months ago that she had came across the information.

Not sure *where* either of us read it.
