a samples that you got? I got a ton of them! I donated mine to our local food pantry. I am surprised to hear than not everyone got a ton of samples. With my first dd, I was given a CASE of ready to feed. With my subsequent babies I was given several cans. I wonder if formula companies are privy to whether or not a mother is bf and they try to change her mind with convenient samples. It appears that many ff don't get so many samples. Just a thought I had for what it's worth;) Lisa.

The hospital where I delivered Sierra didnot give you formula samples if you BF. We got a commplimentary diaper bag (from enfamil) with a freezer pack & an insulated zipper pack to keep EBM. I also think we got a little booklet on BF. As for samples, I got 1 can of powder in the mail from Enfamil & that was it. I gave it to a single mom who was working & didn;t continue to BF, otherwise I would have donated it to a food bank. I did sign up for the Carnation baby club in case I did need to use formula this time around, too. They sent me several "checks" for their formula. I did get as much formula as the checks would cover and also gave that to my riend when I was certain I wouldn't be needing it.

Oh gosh, I got tons when I was pg! It seems I got a can of powder in the mail every week, plus the hospital gave me tons and tons of RTF (even though I told them I was bf'ing!) and at DS's first ped appt, they also gave us lots of both powder and RTF. I tried to refuse it, and said, "I'm breastfeeding!" But they said, "It's free!" Oh, okay, that makes it okay then! NOT! LOL

Anywho, I donated every last bit to Emergency Infant Services, which provides support to families in crisis situations. It was so funny, I walked in the door with about 4 grocery sacks full of formula, and I said I wanted to donate it. I told them the truth, that I got it all free, and the woman who accepted the donation couldn't believe it that the formula companies would send out so many free items to a breastfeeding woman!

I forget who said it in some other thread, but a ff said that she filled out all the cards and everything and said she was a bottlefeeder, and got very little samples. I filled out everything and said I was going to bf, and got inundated with free samples. I think that was no accident on the part of the formula company...

My BFing sister, BFing friends, BFing sister-in-law did NOT get any more FREE samples than I did...I've known people who have put BFing on all their information, those who have put FFing, those who have put UNDECIDED, those who have put they will be doing both...NOTTA basically on the free samples.

I got ONE free pouch of formula powder in the mail (didn't use...not the brand my pediatrician and I decided on). I got a 24-hr supply (barely) w/DS per discharge from the hospital (I'll be buying some similac advanced before I go to the hospital so will have on hand...however, I won't be stocking up until I'm sure it is going to work ok and we aren't going to have to switch...of course, Walmart and Target will exchange it, so no big deal anyway).

Formula companies send formula to everyone because they have proven that free samples = more women formula feeding. They get women while they are vulnerable (the first difficult weeks of breastfeeding). The formula is in the house, the woman is hormonal and sleep-deprived, and it's much easier to give a bottle "just once". Well, many times that "just once" turns into many more bottles and before you know it, the woman is giving up on breastfeeding.

I'm not saying this happens in every case, obviously, but it DOES happen a lot or else the formula companies wouldn't give out so much free formula!

I only received one bottle of RTF from the hospital (came in a diaper bag, which I was happy to get! LOL!). I also received a few cans in the mail.

I gave some of my coupons to friends that ff. I sold all my formula cans on ebay and some formula coupons on ebay, too. I know some people don't think that is right, but I believe that it is mine to sell! All the money I got from selling the formula was used on buying diapers for my ds.

Not sending them to the BFers either!!!

My sister would have loved free samples and she was a BFer and put BFer only on all her information.

I'm the ffer (or one of them) that posted I did put FFer on everything and didn't get all these free samples I'd love to have (providing they are the brand I'm going to use...I cannot be swayed by free formula....I've already chosen our brand and I'm just 27wks LOL)

Lordy, well, now I know why none of you ladies got them - they all came to my house! LOL!!!

Maybe when I get pg again and if the formula fairy decends upon my house again, I'll offer them to the women here!

What I could have used instead of free formula was a spare pair of boobs....

LOL!

I got tons of free cans in the mail; at least one a week for the last half of my pregnancy! I donated ours to our local food bank, as well. The hospital didn't give me any though since I was BFing.
