Just posted a comment about the 13 year old breast feeding. It got me thinking about a friend of mine who gives her son breastmilk. He's got serious allergies... Anyway, once I was at her house and she had made some cookies. After taking a bit it occurred to me they probably contained her breast milk. Gotta say this kinda grossed me out a little. Don't get me wrong it tasted fine...it was the idea.. Would you eat something you knew or thought might contain breast milk (someone else's)? Have you ever used breast milk in cooking? Never really thought about it but I guess formula could be used in cooking too... Ok...my head is spinning now..lol

Well, I know a mother who breasstfed, but was given formula samples. She mixed them up and used them in general recipes for the family. I guess it would just be like sweetend vitamin and mineral fortified powdered milk.

For me, growing up on a farm, with dairy cows, pigs, cats in the barn and so on, lactating mammals did not seem to be a big deal. I could milk cows as a very young toddler, and many times, we would milk a cow straight into a mug, and drink the warm milk immediately. Sometimes, I recall, we even squirted it directly from the teat into our mouth or at a siblings leg for a joke!

Baby piglets were sometimes raised on bottles of cow's milk if their mother had too many in the litter or was not caring for the tinier 'runts' of the litter properly.

However, if the mother is pumping for a boy with allergies, I think it is unlikely she would be wasting the precious drops she got in cooking. So I would not be concerned.

I really don't remember all the details...I just remember thinking she deserved a medal for everything she does for him. It was just one of those moments where she offered me a cookie she had baked... The thought crossed my mind really in passing.

But ya, I do remember her telling me that she used breast milk in cooking.

I'd ask her now, but her hubby's been ill. Last we talked doctors were trying to figure out what was the matter.
