Commitment, or lack thereof...

So I just saw something somewhere else (won't specify where, but I bet a few of you will figure it out!) where a woman indicated that she WAS planning on breastfeeding, but now because of a heated debate about it, she doesn't want to anymore.

Ummmmm, are you kidding me?

Some women really do want the credible advice, while others want to pick the advice that fits the choices they already made, and get offended when credible advice is given.

I think this is worth repeating, Becky and is perhaps what I am trying to get at.

>>Perhaps they use Spanish because it sounds prettier than it would in English. Or for the alliteration. <<

I know this bit of trivia! In the 1950's use of the word "breast" was out, so they needed something else.

>>In searching for a name for our new organization, we Founders were struck by the importance placed on breastfeeding by early Spanish settlers in America. In 1598, they dedicated a shrine to "Nuestra Senora de la Leche y Buen Parto" ("Our Lady of Happy Delivery and Plentiful Milk"). The words "happy delivery and plentiful milk" spoke profoundly of yearnings that are common to many mothers. Like women of old, we rejoiced in breastfeeding our babies and wanted to share our newfound knowledge with others. Even though our name came from a religious shrine, we unanimously chose to be a nonsectarian organization from the start. To us, "La Leche" ("The Milk") became as much a symbol as a name. While it was chosen in part because the word "breastfeeding" was not acceptable at that time, in another sense our name's lofty origin reflected the importance we attached to the work we were undertaking.<<

>>Yes, but here's that thing again called confusion! Which advice do I take? Which, what, who, how?...<<

I think the point here is that Dr. Jack Newman, kellymom, and an IBCLC will consistently give you the same reliable information. It's only when you use a site like "verybestbaby" or a lactation specialist or TV doctors that the conflict begins.

"If OB gives you "What to Expect When You're Expecting", why would one not read it?!"

No one is saying you shouldn't read it.
