Commitment, or lack thereof...

So I just saw something somewhere else (won't specify where, but I bet a few of you will figure it out!) where a woman indicated that she WAS planning on breastfeeding, but now because of a heated debate about it, she doesn't want to anymore.

Ummmmm, are you kidding me?

Oh I was never making an argument for tipping the scales in favor of formula - I was pointing out probably the only benefit I see (all things being normal) - and admittedly it is a relatively minor benefit.

"Bottle already prepped and in cooler - no time loss."

But you did have to prep bottles before you could leave....

"11 month old handling bottle - not that big of a risk.

I think it's Kerilynn who *could have* breastfed if she'd drunk some crazy adult shake (and ONLY that)

Yes it was me. I have also done total elimination diets. Let me tell you it is just as lovely as you would think. I have lived a week on soy protein shakes and rice. Then added chicken and so on until you get sick and have to start over. It is oh so joyful and you have so much energy eating nothing!!! I would never ever think that an actual elimination diet would be recommended for a bfing mom. You can barely sustain yourself not to mention a bfing baby. I am not talking about just eliminating dairy, gluten, artificial flavoring, I am talking eliminating everything. It really makes you very weak and lethargic. Even if you could calorically sustain yourself and a baby it would be dangerous from lack of energy and when you aren't really eating much, your emotions tend to get a bit out of control. Not a good situation.

There is so much information and misinformation (wether it be from book, websites or friends) out there. Not only on the bfing topic but on everything. I remember having severe episodes of anxiety in the babystore when just trying to decide what swing would be the best

So the issue of feeding never really crossed my mind as a major decision.

I really never thought about the whole feeding thing as a priority I just figured that I would try to bf and if that didn't work out I could go to formula. I can totally get where woman don't make feeding a priority on the list of decisions.

What may seem like a few simple decisions for one may be very overwhelming for someone else.>>

As someone going through extreme prenatal depression, the above is exactly how I was feeling, when I was actually able to think clearly.
