Commitment, or lack thereof...

So I just saw something somewhere else (won't specify where, but I bet a few of you will figure it out!) where a woman indicated that she WAS planning on breastfeeding, but now because of a heated debate about it, she doesn't want to anymore.

Ummmmm, are you kidding me?

Actually 3 meals a day is not the best idea.

Oh my DD is also very outgoing and constantly the star of her on-going show - we are all just audience members to her life.

I most certainly WOULD let a 3yo eat whenever s/he wanted to. Not *whatever* they wanted, but whenever, yes. I think it is beyond cruel to make someone who doesn't understand the whole concept of "you have to wait it is not yet noon" wait until a time that means absolutely nothing to them (since they can't yet tell time) to eat.

My kids always ate whenever they were hungry. If that was an hour before my supper was ready, that was *fine*. Even if they ate none of my supper. AS LONG AS it was "good for you" foods. If they filled up on veggies and dip and wanted no supper, no problem. If someone decided to give them chocolates, chips and cookies an hour before supper though, they'd get a firm talking-to by me! (That tended to be the IL's ;-)).

AS for sleep, I never followed a schedule for the same reason. If *I* can be tired at 9 pm one night (say after a busy day) but not until 11 another night, why shouldn't a baby, who has no concept of what time of day it is beyond "light and dark" (which varies so greatly depending on the season) also have the same needs sometimes? I *did* try to stick to more of a routine: put on pj's, brush teeth, sing songs and read books. But I waited until they were showing signs of tiredness before doing that b/c if they were happy as clams and I tried the routine they had no desire to fall asleep yet...they simply weren't tired.

I have put Kylie on a schedule and this is because she would eat right before supper and then not eat (often times I did give her a small snack just to tide her over) and other times, if I did give her supper before us, she would want to eat again, and eat an entire meal and she was gaining weight faster then her height.

Part of it is that mine have never been to daycare...I kind of didn't see the point in a schedule if they weren't going, and by the age of 5 they can easily wait until snacktime or lunchtime, an hour or 2. More than little kids.

Like I said though, if they were eating before supper it had better be good quality food. Nuts, hard boiled egg, cold cut meat, salad makings...all those are fine. :-)

We might be thinking the same thing, just different words.

>>(sleep when the baby sleeps)<<

This theory only works with baby #1! When you have #2 that option turns to drink lots of caffeine! Gianna started with her days and nights confused and she would nap when Aria was awake and Aria would nap while Gianna was awake. At 8 months I just got them into the routine of taking coinciding naps on most days! The benefit of the alternating naps was that I got to spend more 1 on 1 time with each of them and it did make the transition easier for Aria.
