Commitment, or lack thereof...

So I just saw something somewhere else (won't specify where, but I bet a few of you will figure it out!) where a woman indicated that she WAS planning on breastfeeding, but now because of a heated debate about it, she doesn't want to anymore.

Ummmmm, are you kidding me?

I have a lot of trouble sleeping and wake often, & I remember most of my dreams. I can easily have 6 or more dreams a night. I have to get up in the morning to rest sometimes, I just don't have the energy to dream any more! LOL Some nights I feel like I "sleep-surf", just riding on the edge of sleep, and never going in deep enough to feel rested.

I do not agree that mom getting the interrupted sleep for a few months is harmless.

>>The article says "good" sleep is uninterrupted. What is "adequate" sleep? <<

It might not be important to distinguish between "uninterrupted" and "adequate" sleep, when discussing PPD. This mainstream website says both are factors (as well as others you've both mentioned).

>>Other factors that may contribute to postpartum depression include:

• Feeling tired after delivery, broken sleep patterns, and not enough rest often keeps a new mother from regaining her full strength for weeks. <<

Have you read Our Babies, Ourselves or anything on mother/baby sleep patterns by James McKenna? Both sources emphasize the importance of both breastfeeding and sleep. Weaning generally is not a solution for getting more sleep.

Page 103 1998 edition...If you question your milk supply (under monitoring your baby's growth) he offers a 4 day test which says to offer 1or 2 ounces of formula after nursing, while you pump to see how much milk you are producing.
