Are you concerned about the message this would send to your child - or is it just pretend?

" If the mom uses a cover-up, then the child thinks that is all a part of how you mother and will want to imitate it with her dolls."

I only used a cover when DD was really small. I will with this one too. If DD wants to use a blanket to cover up that is fine, since that is also what I will use. I'm not spending the money on a "cover" for her to pretend with.

On a side note, I'm going to get a dolly to pretend BFing it so DD can get used to me BFing someone else. I'm really worried about jealousy issues, if I even think of using her Boppy for a pillow to lay down she flips out! I wonder what the thoughts are on Mommy pretending to BF?

I think if you tie it in to the real baby, it'll be helpful.

Are there other things you "practice" with her? Such as how to behave in the store, "fancy manners", etc?

If yes, then this could just be more of the same. Practicing and helping her learn her "role" as big sister.

Or she might just freak out until it's the real thing and adapt like a pro!

^-^

I wouldn't buy a pretend nursing cover for my child to use to pretend, primarily I think because I don't use one myself. :)

When I first saw this headline, I thought it was about bottle-feeding moms using cover-ups to pretend to be nursing when they were really bottle-feeding. Which probably reveals something about my messed-up attitudes toward BFing/FFing.

Anyway, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy this--like, I wouldn't see my daughter pretend-nursing and then go out and buy her a cover so she could pretend-nurse discreetly. That would be silly and would send the wrong message. But if my daughter somehow knew it existed and was begging for one so she could imitate me (or an aunt or whatever), I don't know--maybe I would. It seems like a waste of money when she could just use a blanket (or nothing), but my frugality has yet to be tested against my child's expressed desires. ;)

You're not alone - that's exactly what I thought it meant too!

I don't see my DDs asking for one because I don't use one and have never seen them used at all. If they did I might explain why I think its ok to BF your baby openly but if they still wanted one they could make do with a blanket because I'm way to cheap to buy the real thing!

My son borrows mine when I'm done with it lol. But he doesn't pretend to nurse when he has it. He just likes to wear it. When I'm home I don't use a cover up, and he just lifts his shirt to nurse his cowboy doll. It's pretty cute. lol

Yes, we do work with not screaming in the stores. she can't walk yet, so I don't need to worry about her running off. yesterday wasn't a good trip to the store, as it was past naptime, and she was so sleepy. I felt bad, so I hurried the trip .

What do you mean by "fancy manners" I'm constantly telling her thank-you and please, so hopefully she at least picks those up :-)
