I saw this article on Nicole Richie's breast augmentation.

I will sincerely hope it returns for me as well then :) I'm only 24 so I am definitely feeling too young for my old woman boobs.

I remember after my 2nd wean that my breast did look flat, deflated! I think what happens is that there was little fat left.

But it did come back, my breasts are quite full looking now - and I have not BF in nearly 18 years.

I feel positive that breast feeding was the culprit for why they sag and look deflated now. The change was drastic and was apparent when I weaned by son. I'm not really complaining, because regardless I'll have it fixed when I'm done having kids, but I don't think everyone escapes breast feeding unscathed.

Given that you don't know what your breast might have looked like if you had not BF'd your second, isn't it possible that they might not have looked that might different? If you look around the internet you can find a lot of mothers who never BF'd a single one of their children and now report having breast that are a lot less appealing to them then before they had children.

I guess I'll be the first one on here to say it ruined mine. I FF my first, I BF my second. My boobs lost all elasticity and perk. They look horrendous now. I'd definitely go for surgery and plan on it when I'm done having kids.

So you don't think it is possible that some of it is from a second pregnancy and age?

Yes, it changed them into feeding vessels for my children for 18 mths, and 2.5 years, respectively. After that, they changed back into being just for decoration and recreation. ;-)

Presumably, if one can ask this question, you can assume that one has 1. Aged, 2. Been pregnant (unless you've adopted and induced lactation, of course), and 3. Breastfed. So how would one know that even if there was change, that it was due to BFing alone, and not because of the other 2 variables?

It's really difficult to speak definitively about how breastfeeding has changed my breast based solely on my own experience and observations. The reason for this is that for me, like most BF'ing moms, I was pregnant prior to BF'ing and pregnancy caused my boobs to change considerably, especially in size and it's very difficult to separate any changes that are the result of BF'ing vs those that are the result of being PG. Since I do not know what my breast would have looked like had I not BF'd, I can't say if my breasts would have looked considerably different had I not breastfeed. Certainly, given that my child has almost completely weaned and as a result my breast have shrunk back to a much smaller size, I can say that my breasts will not be like they where pre-PG but I can't say how much of the changes are a result of PG vs BF'ing. It's certainly possible that BF'ing just delayed the changes and that it's simply the result of your milk drying up that cause any negative effects on the appearance of your breasts. Since I BF'd my I did not see these changes for years whereas a mom who FF'd from the start would have seen them much sooner do to their milk drying up in the first week. Unless, your a adoptive mom who manually induces lactation then you can't really separate BF'ing from PG in terms of effect on the appearance of one's breasts. Unless a BF'r could go back in time and experience and see what her breast would look like has she not BF'd then she doesn't know if any changes to her breast post-weaning where the result of BF'ing or PG. There have however been a number of studies that looked into this issue and determined that it appears that pregnancy not BF'ing caused any negative effects of the appearance of a mother's breasts. Given that it's PG that causes your breasts to grow and change and fill with milk in the first week, it makes sense to me that this would be the cases. It also makes sense that your milk drying up either by not BF'ing or by weaning from BF'ing would cause your breasts to shrink and in the end appear less attractive then before your PG. So based on these studies, I'm going to say that it was not BF'ing that change my boobs but PG.

My breasts had always gone up and down in size with weight gain and loss, and they still do. They are a bigger size since breastfeeding than they were before.

Yes, BFing did change my breasts - before I had children, I wore a size 34C, now I wear a 34F! So BFing for nearly 10 years certainly didn't reduce the size of my breasts! LOL

Yes, they aren't as perky as before, but I am pretty sure that has more to do with pregnancies, weight and age - and NOT the fact that I BF. In fact, I feel like my muscles are stronger in that area, and that they would have sagged more if I had not BF.

Studies have also shown that it is pregnancy, not BFing that casues sagging.
