My mom is a health teacher (also an RN), and she recently told me she finished her segment on BFing in one of her classes. I asked her what she talked about and she said that she talked about advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding vs. formula. I did correct her, however, because she had told her class that an adoptive mother cannot breastfeed. I told her it was possible in some cases. FWIW, she is the type who is likely to go back and explain that correction to her class.

So... I was just wondering if BF was part of your health curriculum in school? From what I remember, it certainly wasn't in mine! I found it interesting and positive that she teaches about it.

Count me in here, too. All we got was a film on having your period & that was it.

Oh my mom is a riot - perfect for this job. When she gets chuckles from the 11th and 12th graders, who should be able to keep it together... she looks up and goes, "What's funny? Penis? Vagina? They're the proper medical terms, use them."

When she taught junior high sex ed, she used to have the kids make mobiles of the reproductive systems and hang them all over her classroom. She was observed by her supervisor one time and didn't realize until halfway through the class that there were stuffed felt penises with cotton ball testicles hanging from the ceiling...
