Do most FFing parents know powdered infant formulas are not commercially sterile products? How much of a risk is a E. sakazakii infection? Is it only a risk to premature and low-weight babies? According to the WHO article below, "infants under 2 months of age are at greatest risk."

According to the FDA, "a

Noooooo not Enfamil, Enfamil be damned, curse them! ;-)

D drops: http://www.ddrops.ca

It's a canadian company but they are distributed in the USA by Carlson labs (and it's SOOOOO unfair: they have a 2000 IU per drop dose in the USA that we don't have up here in Canada despite them being mfg'd here!).

So easy to dose. And you may have seen my other info on sun and D but you *almost* have to burn before getting enough D from the sun, you have to be almost nude, and it ONLY works in the summer (forget making sufficient D in the winter most anywhere in N. America) and by then, even if you haven't gotten a sunburn, your skin cancer risk is raised and your skin has already been exposed to enough UVA (it's the UVB that gives you D...) that it will prematurely age.

:-(

Bleak situation... ;-)

It seems Harmony, that both you and the mods failed to challenge it.

I don't know what the CMs were supposed to challenge. Someone asking questions, not understanding, being misinformed on the topic? Or what you think I have failed to do? At first she was referring to Columbine saying calling names couldn't cause that (703) and later she made a broader argument - in response to both many people in this thread challenged her assertion, including a newbie invisible poster (just so angelbabies knows I noticed). They all did an excellent job of debunking her argument and demonstrating that bullying can cause one to want to harm themselves or others. So was there something beyond that that the I or the CMs were supposed to do?

D drops http://www.ddrops.ca are distributed by Carlson Labs in the USA. There is another product that also has 1000 IU per drop, called Bio-D-mulsion forte, however it is not as easy to find I gather AND it has a slight taste to the drop compared to D drops having virtually none. I haven't tried them personally (the Bio-D-mulsion forte), just going on hearsay. How much do the 2yo's weigh? Again, I go by 1000 IU per 25 lbs bodyweight.

HOWEVER I will also add I *suck* at remembering to supplement stuff so I routinely give them much larger doses than that but figure if they get 1-2 doses a week that are larger it's all good...like being out on a sunny day longer followed by cloudy days inside. ;-)

1200 IU is actually getting up to the "not bad" range. Again, virtually no one in N. America will be "overdosing" on a mere 2000 IU per day even if you're getting decent whole body noonday sun exposure in the summer (not the winter).

I'm going to look for them. Does it go by weight for adults too? The twins are 19 and 26 lbs, and I am a small adult about the size of your average 6th grader.

I'm also a sunscreen nut, I get spots on my skin from sun exposure but even before that I detested tanning (not whether others do it but just for me). I'd be one of those people living in Arizona without enough sun exposure, I lived there four years and not one sunburn or tan. One of my ss's had a friend over and during pickup the mom told dh and ss's about her anti-sunscreen philosphy. It caused a near sunscreen revolt among the men in the family, but after a bit of work I think I've got them back to reluctant compliance.
