Do most FFing parents know powdered infant formulas are not commercially sterile products? How much of a risk is a E. sakazakii infection? Is it only a risk to premature and low-weight babies? According to the WHO article below, "infants under 2 months of age are at greatest risk."

According to the FDA, "a

>>Violence in hockey takes on a whole new meaning when your child is entering pee-wee. Your child who was the penalty-king on his team in Atom ;o)>>

From the first sentence I ran with it...yes, it is different when you have kids. When certain players hit the ice, I herd Kylie out of the room to come back 2 minutes later (enforcers etc.)

We have a player named Ruutu with the Ottawa Sens. He once bite another player and so I sometimes say to Kylie, alright, stop it Ruutu! No biting! She thinks that is so funny and calls me Ruutu as well...:D

She is still too young for sports yet, but next fall, she will be in about four to burn some energy and to stop using me as a jungle gym!

Question: Was your son in the box or killing the penalty...not sure how to read that????

It is just as nutritious for a child as cow's milk and more so, given that it has active antibodies in it and is made for humans (contrary to cow's milk).

<>

That's like saying the air is deficient in cheese sandwiches, so we need to quick and give everyone a cheese sandwich supplement because the air doesn't provide enough. Breast milk wasn't meant to contain our daily recommended intake of Vitamin D. We're meant to get that from the sun, which we can, if we go out into the sun for about 15 minutes per day.

And the Vitamin D in cow's milk is artificially added, so it's not like cow's milk is so much better in that arena.

Personally, I think that much ado has been made about nothing when it comes to Vit D and Iron supplements for infants/young toddlers. Why fix what isn't broken? My daughter's ped said that I should start Vitamin D because "breastmilk is deficient in Vitamin D." She recommended an iron supplement, too.

Is my daughter's body deficient in these? Is she not getting these from her diet/exposure to sunlight? Does she have anemia or rickets? The answer to these questions, thankfully, is no. But most people don't ask these questions first before recommending that parents give these supplements to their infants/toddlers. My ped certainly didn't assess these before making these recommendations, and my understanding is that most don't.

Apparently, there is no known safe dosage of Vitamin D when given as a supplement. In the absence of this being known to be safe, and in the presence of a very viable alternative (known as "the sun"), I prefer the natural alternative.

"Your statement just brought that sentiment into focus."

Absolutely. And that's why I said what I did.

***So soemhow science becomes inaccurate when it comes to your specific body? SO if they say that smoking increases heart attacks, its not the same for you?

Science is not incorrect. You have just chosen to ignore it b/c it inconviences you as you previously stated.***

How does this make sense? When did I say science was innacurate please? I did however say it won't convince me to do it tho no matter what, because it is still my choice, is it not? I thought so ;).

How does poisonous smoke inhaled into my body, thus being damaging to my body and possibly making me too sick to continue even BEING a mom by getting cancer, compare to my choice not to bf a toddler and up?

Stats also say that your chances of being killed by a wild donkey are greater than a plane crash, well I fly lots and met wild donkeys while camping in the desert and pet and took pics with the mangy poor creatures but still wasn't killed.

PSST: Do not let Fio see this post...she thinks we are all deficient in vitamin D and no, sun will not give you what you need, especially with all our sun screen. And it would be more then 15 minutes a day as the new recommendation is a lot higher dosages now. I do not think Kylie is getting it with her moo juice intake.

I am not too worried. I think she will be fine but sometimes I wonder. Plus, Kylie has been anemic at one point, but she also was not eating a lot...so, I think for now we are OK again, but as a parent, you just never know...>.<'

We're Scandinavians here. We don't need much sun. I don't understand Vitamin D recommendations that aren't based on skin color, because people with more melanin in their bodies need more Vitamin D than those with less because the melanin blocks Vit D absorption.

<>

Right, but they can test for such things, and there are pretty clear symptoms. E nurses a lot and eats a fair amount of red meat and green, leafy veggies, so I suspect her iron intake is just fine. Considering the side effects of iron supplementation, I would far rather give it to her because she needs it instead of giving it to her because someone says all babies need it.
