Do most FFing parents know powdered infant formulas are not commercially sterile products? How much of a risk is a E. sakazakii infection? Is it only a risk to premature and low-weight babies? According to the WHO article below, "infants under 2 months of age are at greatest risk."

But in order to know for sure, they have to test people, right? And they do have tests for it, right? My understanding is that they do.
I am not saying that Vit D supplementation is wrong. What I'm saying is that I'm not going to supplement my daughter with something that has negative side effects if she doesn't need it.

I don't doubt it. But no one to my knowledge (E's ped included) has tested my daughter for/found her deficient in Vit D, yet many people say I must supplement her with Vit D. Why should I accept armchair diagnoses of her condition, however well-schooled the authors? Is it really that difficult to test for this, so much so that we may as well just assume that everyone's deficient at the same amount and give everyone the same treatment?

OH, pursed lips, fists clenched.
Cheese and rice! That post wasn't pulled?! Holy, do-da.
Ah.
Years back it was recommended that my children take Poly-vi-sol to make sure they got enough vitamin D. I wasn't too keen on having them take a product put out by the formula manufacturers. Instead, I let them get a little sun.
Since then, I am beginning to scrounge up more info on vitamin D. I even bought some Cod Liver Oil a few months ago. But the bottom line seems to keep coming back to the fact that humans need sunshine. CLO has too much vitamin A.
Members of the board from Canada have found pure vitamin D sources, which I might have considered, but never looked into.
OK, so this post doesn't offer much in the way of insight on vitamin D. But hey, doesn't it feel good to know your not alone in being wary of supplements?
