Formula ads on the debate board

I don't know if anyone else is seeing the same ads as I am, but every ad I have seen on the debate board for the past few days has been for formula. It makes me wonder if they deliberately choose to have their ads here or if it just comes up due to the keywords used on this page? And it makes me wonder whether it brings them any business, by advertising here?

I don't know if they are using Google Adsense, but \i came across this article for bloggers:

Blocking Google AdSense formula ads for parenting and breastfeeding sites

If you're a breastfeeding activist who wants to abide by the World Health Organization's International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes (aka the WHO Code — PDF here),* but who also wants to pick up a little Google AdSense revenue on a blog, you probably have been stuck with a conundrum.

AdSense sells ad space based on keywords, and advertisers vie for page views and position according to a bid system. Formula companies specifically bid for keywords like "breastfeeding," and they have big budgets, so they often win the page view. They also use deceptive lead-ins like a title offering breastfeeding help, when the ad will spit you out onto a formula page.

Parenting bloggers will in all innocence write a blog post related to breastfeeding success, only to find the accompanying ads undermine their efforts and distress their readers.

Found a petition for Google Adsense:
Petition text:
We call on Google to prohibit the advertising of infant formula through any and all of Google's advertising platforms.

Advertising infant formula directly violates the World Health Organization's International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes.

We ask Google to become compliant with the Code, and allow only mother and baby-friendly advertising.

I don't generally see formula ads here. I would be upset if I were a blogger and readers ended up seeing formula ads. I signed the petition.

Unless the policy has change it was my understanding the formula ads where not supposed show up on the BF vs FF debate board just they are not supposed to appear on the BF support boards. So if your seeing formula ads on this debate board then you may want to inquire about that. I have not noticed any such ads recently myself. Quite a quite a while ago there where some formula ads that mistakenly showed on on some BF support boards and they quickly corrected that, so it could be they are showing up on this board by mistake.

I'm almost positive I saw an Enfamil ad here this weekend. It was the ad for the "staged" formulas they're making now...you know, powdered formula specifically targeted toward newborn babies. *herk*

What do you know? They must have read my mind (or their advertising platform works at warp-speed), because the second I posted that about the Enfamil ads, one showed up in the top of the screen. It was the same exact one I was referencing a minute ago.

It would be interesting to see if i village would actually ban the add on this board. i would be pleasantly suprised if they did, but i really doubt it.
