Formula risks...I believe

  • Formula has risks that are unacceptable if breastmilk is available
  • Formula has risks but it's OK to choose it if you understand the risks
  • Formula has risks but it's OK to choose it even if you DONT understand the risks
  • Formula has some risks but they are overblown
  • Formula has risks but so does breastmilk, and the risks are about the same
  • Formula doesn't have any risks
  • Other, please explain

I know that this was not asked of me but, I am bored and the kids are sleeping and if I don't keep busy I will start missing my dog and cry so I want a go at this one.

>>Wait... you don't want your children to be the healthiest they can be? You didn't mean to say that right?<<

No..I don't want my kids to be the healthiest they can be. For my kids to be the healthiest that they can be, I would have had to have started with a different husband. My husband did a ton of drugs back in the day, don't know if that messed up his sperm but it could have had an effect. I wouldn't have eaten all of the crap I did when I was pregnant. I am selfish that way...you can look at it as I stole from their potential to be healthy by eating fast food and not whole foods throughout my pregnancy. Oh and I didn't quit smoking cold turkey, I weaned (doctor led wean), but still smoked in the first trimester. If I wanted them to be the healthiest I would have quit prior to becoming pg (eventhough they were both oops').

Now that they are born I want them to be healthy but not the healthiest. If that was my biggest concern as a parent, they wouldn't live very full lives. I wouldn't let them go outside, to the park, or playground. They could get germs, bumps and bruises. There are way too many potential risks in the outside world. I would have to put a bubble around my house!

So I want my kids to be healthy but not the healthiest. As how this relates to this debate. I could bf. I could go on an adult elemental formula and could have bfed, however the sacrifices outweigh the benefits. The same could be said of the ppd/ppp mom. It is not that we don't want to offer the best for our kids, it is that the risks of formula do not outweigh the benefits of ffing. I know that most of the women on this board do not see the benefits of ffing, but there are benefits to those who need it and these can only be defined on a case by case basis. For me it is being able to stay on my meds and not having to get a second or third job to pay for my formula. The benefits are different for every family. Just becuase ffing does benefit the child in the same way that bfing does (I know it is standard...no benfits..blah blah blah) it can benefit the child as a whole. For my girls, they get to have mommy around and healthy...for me that really outweighs any risks. As for their health...I care as much about their mental health as their physical health...and it just doesn't seem healthy for them not to have mommy around to love and care for them.

What kind of website would you prefer? And why in the world are you being hostile toward me? I'm just trying to provide you with the info you asked for. You have yet to produce any evidence for your side of this "debate".

No, I don't think so, although it was stated numerous times in that link...so perhaps it is not just me that you should believe is "hung up" on that there biased studies?

<>

If the study is biased, what does it matter what it says?

Ahh it gets even better. The meth link that I referenced from your Google list states that the ruling that she killed her child with her breastmilk was overturned but it doesn't state why. Also, the link to the article on CNN that is included at the bottom of the blog has long since expired. Care to try again?

The cocaine reference is again a blog. And again, states that the charges brought against the mom *suggested* that her cocaine laced milk killed her baby. Doesn't state for certain and doesn't link to an actual news story or anything like that.

Still scratching my head as to how assaulting a cop with your breastmilk is linked to tainted milk.

I went further down your list to find the link to dioxin tainted breastmilk. Are you trying to tell me that cow's milk or soybeans won't be tainted with dioxin? And you've just gotta love it when the one and only reference in the bibliography at the end of an article is to that article.
