Formula risks...I believe

  • Formula has risks that are unacceptable if breastmilk is available
  • Formula has risks but it's OK to choose it if you understand the risks
  • Formula has risks but it's OK to choose it even if you DONT understand the risks
  • Formula has some risks but they are overblown
  • Formula has risks but so does breastmilk, and the risks are about the same
  • Formula doesn't have any risks
  • Other, please explain

Yea, for some reason I'm mixing my posters.

I'm skipping the breast feeding task force website, thanks.

Well, sehorse, here is a study which supports your argument, http://www.medpagetoday.com/Pediatrics/GeneralPediatrics/tb/6669. It is a study which shows that breastfeeding does not reduct the risk of asthma or allergies. Article was written on 9/12/2007.

I did point out that bf kids have the advantage to having mom's antibodies....I was just pointing out that if a ffed baby gets a bug it is not emmediate er visit. They still have immune systems that can fight of germs. If you bf baby gets a germ that you haven't had your baby's immune system will still fight off that cold. The statement that was originally made sounded as though a ffed kid has no capacity to fight off infection.

A International/Board Certified Lactation Consultant has far more extensive training and knowledge in lactation science and practice than does the typical doctor. I would never ask for BF information or advice from anyone but an IBCLC. Why do you think a doctor would have better information? Furthermore, if you want info from a doctor, read the other reference Toni provided from Dr. Jack Newman. Or is that unsatisfactory to you because of his pro-BF agenda?
