I just wanted everyone to know formula companies arn't even supposed to give out samples. The USA signed a world health organization(w.h.o) agree and promising to follow the w.h.o code that bans formuls advertising and distrubuting free samples. There is no public pressure to enforce the ban, ( we all ike free stuff so why would we) so the formula companies have just been able to ignore this, and keep sending out the coupons samples and checks.

And frankly I'm glad, as between my own free stuff, and the coupons sent by friends... I've saved well over $100. Since BF was not an option, and I am a SAHM looking to cut costs - I'm extremely grateful for how helpful the free stuff is.

I'm glad they do too. Formula is damn expensive. Having a free sample of formula is ideal when your baby either doesn't tolerate it or like it. Would hate to waste a whole can of powder.....money money money.

I was thankful for the free samples. We needed to supplement occasionally when I was EP, and I was glad to have something in the house. Once we switched to formula, I knew we did *not* want the brand that we had samples of (Similac), because she wasn't tolerating it well. Having formula samples neither discouraged me from trying to BF, nor did it affect my decision when choosing a brand of formula.

I'm just glad we kept them...I almost threw them out when I was pregnant, because I assumed I'd never use them!

perhaps i'm wrong, but my understanding is that the u.s has NEVER signed onto the WHO code. giving out formula is only ONE violation of many that the u.s. commits.

I thought that too when I read the post, but I was unable to dredge up anything to that effect. I just read Peggy Robin's book "Bottlefeeding Without Guilt" and it did say that, though, and the U.S. hasn't signed any of the amendments and addendums, either.
