I Formula Feed
| Mon, 07-07-2008 - 7:50pm |
I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

Woah! Way to take it out of context. I admit I'm not on my game today and am a wreck and probably shouldn't even be responding because nothing is coming out right. BUT I was writing that to say that there's no way to tell what *MIGHT HAVE* happened had the other road been taken. That's why I wrote "MAYBE." The only reason I even mentioned intelligence is because some studies have shown a *SLIGHT* (which is the word I used) increase in IQ amongst BF babies. Tess said, "despite the ridiculous claims that people on this board make about how a baby will turn out "stupid" or have a low IQ if they are formula fed." Mary asked for proof that members of this board said that all FFers are "STUPID." I NEVER said that because I would have been calling myself stupid. So please don't take my words out of context and use them to fuel some ludicrous argument.
<<Wouldn't it have been easier to switch to a soy based formula?
It certainly does seem as though you are prepared to expose your children to other risks as well.
I am glad I live in another country where helmets are compulsory for all adults and children who are on bicycles, even infants in the carrier seat. Such a law would protect your children. I think we were also the first nation in the world to make wearing seatbelts and using baby and infant capsules and seats compulsory. Sometimes, people just have to be protected from themselves.

Increased risk. No more, no less. The TIC comments only muddy the waters, really.

Here is the most recent example of someone saying you will probably be smarter if BF.
so have you read the studies on SIDS & back sleeping?

Perhaps you missed my point. The very fact that our species has survived attests to the fact that breastmilk is pretty dang good.
In addition, as our ability to gain knowledge from science expands our appreciation for the differences between breastmilk and CIF is also expanding. Formula is missing some 270 components, it has none of the protective factors that BM has against things like cigarette smoke and PCBs. I agree that we have limited information about what the deficits of formula will prove to be. But there is enough preliminary information to state that formula is risky.
<<How do you know they're fine? How do you know that they would have not been a bit better had they been breastfed?>>

Actually, I do know that my child is better off being breastfed than being formula fed.

OK, this is the second time you've alluded to breastmilk being something that it's not.
