I Formula Feed

I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

"I have never seen anyone wear helmets when ice skating. Is this another new safety thing?"
LOL.
I don't think it is mandatory to use helmets during a public skate time, though it would evidently be recommended. But the CanSkate program here in Canada, which does the private and group lessons, does require helmet use at least by younger children. Ice is hard, skate blades are even worse if you are down and out and get kicked in the forehead...it is partly good common sense and partly CYA policy I presume. I'm happy enough to comply but of course mine started wearing helmets at 7 mos of age on their first rides in my bike trailer and as toddlers on their tricycle etc. They may not straddle a bike at all without a helmet on basically. My mom was the same way with me and I feel completely *nude* without a helmet on when I bike (same with seatbelt use...I am young enough that I *was* in a carseat then harness then regular belt and would never ever imagine not doing mine up; it feels WRONG).

Bike helmets ARE mandatory during ice skating lessons where I live (NJ).
Cathiemac, whose daughter is into competition figure skating, has mentioned this too. Her 8yo (or is she almost 8?) I believe no longer wears a helmet during competitions anyhow (correct me if I'm wrong Cathie?) b/c she demonstrated that she tends to lift her head up when she falls, so it doesn't contact the ice. However, I don't think it is exclusive to skaters...I think it happens when you age enough to "learn how to fall" basically...I fell pretty badly on the ice, like a log, last fall. I had a severely bruised tailbone and a lot of back pain...but despite not seeing it coming, I lifted my head up and out of the way when I fell, out of instinct evidently. AS people were crowding around me asking if I was ok and I had my eyes shut tightly and was doing "labour pain breathing" and telling them to get away from me and leave me in pain ;-) and they were concerned about my head...I realized I didn't have even a minor bruise of any sort on my head. I could have smacked it just as badly as my tailbone basically on the ice that day but evidently I avoided it...luckily! ;-)

The program the girls did in the winter said bike helmets were "ok" but not recommended. They would rather proper skating helmets, which came further down on the forehead and back of the neck, and had different type of padding on them. I can see how they basically would be safer on ice...not to mention bike helmets often have *large* holes in them to let air in while you are riding in hot sun, but you don't really want the pointy end of a girl's figure skating blade to jab through that hole...the skating helmets have some vents but they are pretty small and since it is colder on ice than out in the hot sun biking, I can understand why the vents don't even need to be as big. :-)

No, it's definitely not unique to skaters but I do think trained skaters are slightly better at it

You talk about all the things that will be wrong with FF children like the same thing can't

Well, here's some evidence showing how BFing *does* potentially raise IQ.
