I Formula Feed

I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

Not to mention what they line the cans with.

That's a good point Stephanie! :-)

Even if I *bottled* milk I could can it in mason jars and still not have the same exposure to Bis-A. Not sure if Mason jars have some on the inside of the lid but there would be much less liquid touching *that* than the entire lining of formula cans.

The formula has always had me thinking "damned if you do, damned if you don't" WRT which type to use. They say to use RTF or concentrate for newborns b/c of the risk of E. sakazakii in powdered formula. But those 2 types are the ones with more Bis-A in them (not sure the powdered formula cans are even lined with Bis-A since it is a powder, but if they are, the amount that *leaches* into the formula, given it is not heated *in the can* in the same way, is likely less).

I have never seen anyone wear helmets when ice skating. Is this another new safety thing?

Hockey players have been wearing helmets for quite some time actually...

Here it is Shari:

>>Just because you don't *see* any effect, and because you insist that your babies had no problems with formula, doesn't mean that A)they haven't been affected (trust me when I say they have) and B)they wont' be affected in the future and C)other babies aren't affected.<<

It's from the Mayo Clinic, August 2007, thread. It wasn't posted by anyone on this thread.

ETA: I was a little worried it might have been me.

"My point is that BFing isn't a magical cure that is going to ensure your child turns out perfect."

Nor is having a healthy diet, but I think you'll agree with me that it's the better choice.

"to me the benefits of FF outweighed the risk."

And what are the benefits of ff over bf, to the baby?

Define "thoroughly evaluated."

I do understand what you are saying in your 2nd paragraph, though I do think that there are still things lacking in formula that I might be able to provide if I were to research it properly.

«Although lacking in regards to ingredients when compared to bm, it still has several nutrients that karo syrup and carnation milk do not.»

This is true but if I were to make up a homemade formula it would *not* be limited to karo syrup and carnation...even if that's what DH was fed with. ;-) It would likely be organically fed milk (goat? cow? perhaps bison? not sure!) with many added ingredients, not just syrup and water...

<<No my logic is that something that is designed to feed children and has been thoroughly evaluated isn't unsafe.>>

By whom, the FDA?
