I Formula Feed
| Mon, 07-07-2008 - 7:50pm |
I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

<<One of our regular posters was fed a homemade formula as a child and she is still here, alive, and kickin'!>>
If I recall correctly, there are several of us who were fed the homemade mixture of evaporated milk, karo syrup, polyvisol, and whatever else went into the infant formula.
I'm living proof that to aspire to "just fine", you don't need a commercial formula.

Boy, there's a case of flawed induction if I ever read one. You didn't really think we'd all read this and go, "Wow, that's really good argumentation!", did you?

"I guess maybe I wasn't clear (I'm new to this whole debating thing), I understand that formula has risks that are subject to anything that is "manufactured", what I was trying to say is that, if you're making your own formula with store-bought ingredients, chances are, the ingredients you're using are also "manufactured".

I think that's anecdotal.
I see that this will be buried some 200 posts later and that the point may be well buried, but
True......
Not true.....

>>I'm pretty sure that the recipe today's formula companies are using is a little more involved than the do-it-yourself versions handed out by doctors 50 years ago. <<
Actually I think the newer formula is less involved than the formula of 50 years ago. They used to tweak the "formula" based on the age or size of the baby. That's why it was called formula.

"What then are any of those comments implying? If not BFing produces smarter children?"
The studies claiming that BF children have higher IQ's does not mean that FF children have low IQ's. It's a false dichotomy.

"I didn't say I didn't believe the risks. I just choose to live my life not worrying about the risks of everything. I would rather enjoy what life has to offer."
So the two are mutually exclusive, are they? It's interesting being human, isn't it- we are blessed with big enough brains to handle both risks and enjoyment at the same time. This argument, unfortunately, is the same that makes some men refuse to wear condoms because then they can't enjoy sex. I suppose they're also enjoying what life has to offer- STD's, unplanned pregnancy, etc.
