I Formula Feed

I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

Boy, there's a case of flawed induction if I ever read one. You didn't really think we'd all read this and go, "Wow, that's really good argumentation!", did you?

Well that's about the same thing I feel like some of the arguments that I've been getting.

Looks to me like Shari is right:

>>Just because you don't *see* any effect, and because you insist that your babies had no problems with formula, doesn't mean that A)they haven't been affected (trust me when I say they have) and B)they wont' be affected in the future and C)other babies aren't affected.<<

It's from the Mayo Clinic, August 2007, thread. It wasn't posted by anyone on this thread.

Actually, Nisu, that's not quite accurate. That quote is taken from this post:

...in direct response to Shari's proclamation:

"I have yet to see a study and please check what has been posted before you give me repeats, that proves that long term effects are going to happen to my children, so far all of them are fine!"

Shari is currently asserting that someone claimed that her children had been "harmed" by her decision to formula feed.

That's not at all what Stacia said. Stacia was responding directly to the notion that there is no evidence of long term effect. She *never* claimed "harm". She

"I had my children to enjoy them"

So, what happens when you're not enjoying them?

I'm sorry, but statements like that just creep me out. I realize that there is no reason to have a child that isn't intrinsically selfish, but you talk about your kids the way I talk about expensive cheese or a nice car.

"Which will bring us back to the happy mother equals happy child argument."

Based on that logic, the mothers who are happy giving their infants soda and french fries will have happy children as well. I really doubt that what makes you happy automatically is best for your baby.

No one said you had to breastfeed, but I have to say that your attempts to mitigate the arguments about risk by saying that you just didn't want to are pretty poor. I realize that my perspective is my own, but the more you delve into this, the more your posts sound disturbing. As I said before, you make it sound like your children's health and happiness was but a happy but unplanned side effect of planning for your own health and happiness.

"Well that's about the same thing I feel like some of the arguments that I've been getting."

You are right in some cases (personally I think the argument that bm is better than formula because it has more ingredients is quite shaky logic), but it does not excuse your own weak argumentation.

Well I wouldn't use cloth diapers so I don't really care if I could throw it in the wash or not.

Fair enough.

But, as I've said before, I believe that when we talk about risk, the harm part is implied. There is a risk . Similarly, I inferred that babies "affected by formula" have been "negatively" affected aka harmed. Which I more or less kinda agree with.

The thing is I more or less kinda think that nearly all babies will be adversely affected by formula. Can't prove it, don't think I've said it before...

Maybe I didn't even pull the right quote anyway...
