I Formula Feed

I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

<<I'm a firm believer in what's meant to happen will no matter what you feed your children.>>

Sorry, I'm still plowing thru this very long thread and very far behind. Perhaps this has already been commented on...

But "no matter what you feed your children"? I hope I misunderstood you. Maybe you meant whether you BF or FF, not no matter what?

Because some parents have some weird ideas on what should be fed to a baby. There was a mom who fed her 2m baby only rice milk & applesauce - no breast milk or formula. There was a mom who fed her baby only soy milk (not formula), and the baby died. There are many children that drink Koolaid or Cola in their bottles. A whole gneration of babies were raised on Karo syrup and Carnation Milk. Another woman told me she fed her premie whisky, because the baby was to young to handle formula. My cousin fed her 6m baby skim milk only, because her dr said he was too fat. My son lived on sugar water from

<< teach figure skating and learn to skate classes. We require that ALL learn-to-skate students come with helmets. As the children progress in their skills, they are not required to wear helmets anymore."

My daughter figure skates. CanSkate recommends a helmet up to the third level and she got her third level at age three and moved up with the figure skaters, including sharing ice with national competitors. She wore a helmet - the only one on the ice. But given her size and the collision-risk, she wore a helmet. That sort of started a trend - you see all kinds of helmets now. But when she was five and started covering more ice in less time, we noticed that the helmet gave her a reduced visibility. When she started falling without her helmet hitting the ice, we decided to remove it. She's seven how and she doesn't even have a helmet - we have to borrow one when she does recreational skates with school or friends because the rinks require then up until age 12.

But it was with a great deal of trepidation that we made the decision. I am such a strong believer in helmets for ice skating and have convinced my entire family, inlaws included and everyone was shocked that we would decide sich a thing. It would be the same reaction if I suddenly decided to not breastfeed.

But, for us, the risks at her level appeared to be outweighing the benefits. If you have any info to the contrary, of course, I am open to challenges on any parenting decision I make.>>

I don't have a problem with your decision. Like I said, the more advanced skaters almost never wear helmets. Your daughter sounds like she is more advanced. I don't know her level but I'm not talking about Olympiads over here. LoL....Just as long as they're not in learn to skate classes (barely standing and doing skulling/swizzles pumping etc), they are not required to wear a helmet ....and after they reach that point they almost NEVER do. I never wore a helmet as a kid and I know I would have resisted wearing one, but then again I never wore a seat belt either. I think it sounds like you have made good decisions so far. Helmets probably should be worn more in figure skating (especially pairs) but I don't see that coming down the road any time soon. The sport is oddly stubborn in its ways. However, I can see why visibility and possibly even balance (depending on the weight of the helmet....maybe a light foam one would work well) could be affected by them. But like I said, I don't have any first hand knowledge on what it's like to wear a helmet skating. I was a girl who couldn't stand it if my pony tail got too long and was flopping around....:)

Sorry for the rambles but I woke up and am unable to get back to sleep with darn restless legs. They're driving me bonkers.

I guess I'm starting to agree with you in regards to moms not being all that informed when it comes to infant feeding decisions.

The thing I always find interesting when people talk about how we all survived back then - is that they conveniently forget about the children that didn't.

The ones that fell out windows, drowned, were electrocuted, etc. The reason that all these safety products were invented -

Granted, it's not BM, but you just gave me a great idea for the mesh feeders I got as shower gifts and a little bit of formula for my teething baby!

<<And no I wouldn't just feed my child evaporated milk and Karo syrup, formula was made to feed babies, a homemade mixture is not.>>

Actually home-made mixtures
