I Formula Feed

I chose to formula feed my daughter. I love her with all my heart, and am a great mother (contray to what other mothers will say because I didn't BF). I gave my daughter the best 9 months of my life when pregnant...eating healthy, excerising, quit smoking, quit drinking, yada yada yada and I give her everything in this world now but yes I was selfish and formula fed and do not regret one second of it. I'm sorry that my husband, mother, sister can help with feedings and make a bottle themselves... I can go out for a night and not worry about having a glass of wine or I can go to the mall and not have to whip my boob out in the middle of the common area. And my daughter is extemely healthy and happy. I don't think Im going to hell because I formula feed nor do I feel I am a bad parent. My husband and I agreed formula was the way to go for us. I'm sure there are plenty of things BF'ing mothers do that other parents wouldn't agree with but that doesnt mean you should be crucified for it. I think other mothers should get off their high horse about bf'ing and realize its just not for everyone and you're not

Why do I have to be happy about your decision to put yourself above your child and give them a inferior and dangerous substance just b/c it is easier for you. Sorry, you dont get an applaud for it.
Did I say you had to be happy about my decision?

OK. I also figured you probably knew, Spencer, but that's why I said "and everyone else"...kind of FYI. :-)

«How can you see the risk of formula to be so bad, but other risks to be ok?»
The main reason is that there are NO BENEFITS to formula for the child. NONE (except for children with the metabolic disorders such as galactosemia mentioned in this thread). Not one benefit. The other examples have a true benefit to someone. There is a benefit to driving some places. Cars pollute, you can get in a collision etc., but the bottom line is, if you work a 20 min. drive from your house, the benefit of driving is you spend more time with your family and you don't spend 3 hours commuting by walking every day. If you bicycle around, you run the risk of being hit by a car, hitting your head (helmets help lower this risk) etc., but the benefit is ultimately your physical health. With formula, it is kind of like cigarette smoking *in that* there is NO HEALTH BENEFIT for the child. None whatsoever. While formula does save some lives, the vast majority of people who claim it may have saved their children would also be able to claim their child was saved by banked donated milk, if such an item were easily available, as it is in some other countries.

«If it were dangerous it wouldn't be available on store shelves for ANYONE to use.»
I see you wrote "anyone", and I'm figuring you take that to mean that things like alcohol and cigarettes are not available for "just any old person" to buy and somehow that makes it "ok" to sell them to adults...(which I don't agree with) BUT there are other things that are sold. You know, my 8 year old daughter could go into a drugstore and buy tylenol or advil/motrin and overdose on it. There is a danger to these products despite their benefit of curing aches and pains. And you don't need to be 18, 19, or 21 in order to buy them! "Anyone" can buy them...and use or misuse them. And there is a definite risk to them such as liver damage from tylenol or bleeding issues from motrin.
So yes, some things are put on shelves that are dangerous. Just b/c it is readily available does NOT make it perfectly safe...not by far.

The main reason is that there are NO BENEFITS to formula for the child.
But there are benefits for the mother in some cases.

Why do you get to outweigh the baby you decided to have?

And interestingly enough my formula recommands speaking to a doctor first before using it.
AND, these things didnt always have warning labels. They were implemented AFTER hundreds of thousands had died.

Why do you get to outweigh the baby you decided to have?
Because I'm the mother and I make the decisions.
