Dr. Hale explains:

The app allows you to search for medications by keyword, search by condition, and browse alphabetically through prescription and non-prescription medications and vitamins, and see safety ratings at various stages for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. You can enter your patient's information, and see results tailored to her situation. And it's all backed by the same evidence-based research used in my book.

In addition, the app will provide pop-up alerts for any breaking news, recalls or pertinent information affecting your patients.

Is this good? Comments?

Definitely good, particularly for LCs and LLL leaders. There are other similarly focused apps out there, like WHO growth chart calculators and breast milk calculators like this one: http://www.geddesproduction.com/phone-apps.php

It sounds like a wonderful idea! I wish there was a more reasonably priced version for moms!

I saw the app too but becuase I don't look up Hale ratings of medications that often to justify the high cost of the app I decided to not buy it myself. I have heard good things about it though so I think that anyone who provides full time BF support including IBCLC's, LLL leaders, pediatricians and doctors who see BF'd/BF'ing mothers/babies, would likely benefit from this app provide you have a compatible smart phone or tablet.

I think the reason they don't do this is that they don't want mothers making the decision to BF on a med by themselves but rather in consultation with a doctor or IBCLC. Thus they charge a price that proffesionals can afford and will be willing to pay and one that will help pay for all the efforts Hale is launching to get the info on meds and BF'ing out to more proffesionals in an easier to access format as well as to I bet it also supplements the cost of the research on meds and BF'ing he is involved in.
