Need some breast vs formula feeding topi

Hi everyone. I am a nursing student and am doing a paper on breast feeding vs formula feeding. I don't want a debate on which is best (I already know my opinion on that!) but am looking for some pros and cons to explore in this paper and would appreciate any and all suggestions! Here's what I've got so far: Pro breast feeding: nutritional value, cost, convenience, bonding. Pro Formula feeding: Others can take responsibility for feeding the baby, convenience.

Thanks!

Sandra, one of the benefits to BF that you did not list is the immunological benefits.

Id leave off bonding. Bonding can and is done with both feeding methods. Nether bond is stronger just because of how you fed the baby. ( I have done both so can say this with 100% certainly)

For ffing you do not have to express milk to give baby a bottle. Some bfers hate pumping, lol. Not having to worry about nursing in public.

Breast feeding: Not having to clean and sterlize bottles (or not as many) and not having to prepare bottles. (I know some dont find that to be a pain but I hated it, lol)

BF: 1. proven lower risk of early breast cancer for women

2. No risk of milk contamination

FF: 1. Woman can eat, drink and smoke and not worry about contaminating her milk

2. Woman can wear her pre-pregnancy bra's sooner.

You can leave out the smoking part.....there are bf'ing mothers who smoke as well.

Definitely don't forget the immunological benefits. And how about dh's favorite--larger breasts? LOL! I don't quite appreciate them as they're pretty heavy, but he's very happy to have a wife w/ 34E's (I usually wear a B cup)! LOL!

i think there are some "culture" things missing from your list...

bf-ing maybe politically correct, but it's not always socially acceptable (in public)...of course, my opinion is that it should be, but that's another story.

bf-ing can require a support network that is lacking (few of today's moms have mothers,or mil's who bf-d -- most ff'd)

you missed the point..ff moms who smoke don't need to worry about *milk* contamination..bf moms (though, i don't know any who do, but i'm sure they exist), who smoke would need to worry about *milk* contamination.

second hand smoke was not the point.

Wasn't there threads here that stated milk contamination when bf'ing is not that much of a worry due to some sort of item being in the bm?

Isn't there many here that state they would RATHER see a bf'ing mom smoke then a ff'ing mom?

in any case, I really don't see feeding method as an advantage for either camp.

true...but again...that was not the point of the ABOVE post.

p.s. "both camps" should quit.

<<2. Woman can wear her pre-pregnancy bra's sooner.>>

Is there anyone out there who can do this? ACK! I just got fitted for new post-baby bras today and I'm smaller than I was pre-baby. Mind you, I did BF for three weeks, but good night--what my boobs look like now! SIGH.
