Here's an seemingly innocent article on a nurse-in at an Applebees. However, if you read the reader comments...boy oh boy! Talk about some ignorant remarks. One of them even equated NIP to smoking! Unbelievable. I thought it would be a good thing to discuss on here, especially since our resident FF/anti-NIP'ers are feeling underrepresented.

BF'ers, be prepared to be astounded.

Not to mention the fact that your body is designed to let down milk when your baby sends hunger cues. So feeding a baby a bottle when perfectly good breastmilk is literally at the gate makes no sense whatsoever.

Amen! This thread has taken a turn for the ridiculous. Who is sehorse to decide what the "rule" is for BF, and how all the rest of us should be dealing with it? Sheesh, I'm glad she didn't mind being engorged and leaky and her children always switched between breast and bottle easily. Some of us have more issues, and it seems condescending of her to let us all know how we should handle them. My son and I are doing just fine, thanks!

Hee hee! Not to me! :D

I wore a bra with pads to bed until my son was 18 MONTHS OLD. Good thing I found those cheapo Johnson's NP's at Target; they saved my sheets, nightgowns and wallet! LOL.

Are you claiming that most women, once they've established their milk supply, become engorged and/or leak if they skip a feeding?

If so, I wonder why you brandish the whole "prolific" thing (which I find kind of funny btw!)

But WHY? Is there some reward at the end of the day for not making anyone else "uncomfortable"? I drive a car instead of walk everywhere; I must be making some environmentalist "uncomfortable" with my choice. I have worn a Christian cross on a necklace; I might be making an Atheist "uncomfortable" for that. What difference does it really make in life if we never cause anyone else to be "uncomfortable"? What weight does their "need to be comfortable" hold in the face of my *right* to drive a car or wear a religious symbol, or for that matter, to NIP? This is a question that has been asked time and again in these NIP threads, and it just isn't being answered.

SO WHAT?!?!?! I don't think any NIP proponent in this debate has argued that NIP *won't* make others "uncomfortable". Many of us have had experiences wherein we were made to clearly understand others' displeasure at seeing us NIP. But we also have the *law* on our sides, and while acknowledging that these onlookers might be "uncomfortable" with our exercising our rights as BF mothers, we are adamant that IT DOES NOT MATTER as long as we are legally protected. It has nothing to do with finding pumping or using EBM to be "taxing"; it's about our rights as BF mothers and the fact that BM *from the breast* is a healthier choice for both baby and mother. We don't *have* to let go of our rights to appease the public who might be "uncomfortable" with our freedom to NIP.
