Not all formula makes your baby fat!

I wonder what about the cow's milk formula makes babies drink more?

""All formulas are not alike," said Dr. Julie Mennell, a developmental psychobiologist at Monell Chemical Senses Center. "These two formulas have the same amount of calories, but differ considerably in terms of how they influence infant growth."

When the data were compared to national norms for breast-fed infants, the rate of weight gain of protein hydrolysate infants was comparable to the breast milk standards; in contrast, infants fed cow's milk formula gained weight at a greater rate than the same breast milk standards.

Aren't those special protein hydrolysate formulas just used for children who prove to be intolerant to cow's milk protein? And cost a lot, and smell bad. (Probably taste bad too).

If formula making your baby fat is because the baby just chugs down large amounts of whatever is in the bottle, then perhaps when what is in the bottle does not tast good, they will drink what they have to, and not chug down excessive amounts. I mean, if you were an adult faced with wonderful food, you too may over eat, but if you were faced with something you don't particularly like, but it is the only thing you can eat to stay alive, you will not overeat that one. You will however, eat enough.

Mothers who FF will not be going out in droves to buy the more expensive formulas just over the weight issue, I don't think. But in the end of course, breastfeeding would still address the weight gain issue, and if the baby is intolerant of even dairy in the mother's diet, that can be adjusted.

However, there is not accounting for taste.

For sure, and I would think that a child who gets used to a formula, it probably tastes OK because that is the comforting food that they know. No accounting for adult tastes either.

The proof that not all formula makes your baby fat is sitting on my right.
