OK, I know we have touched on this subject before but I would like to go over it again. Tell me....whether you bf or ff and if you are for or against pacifiers and why. I am talking newborns and infants. No debating toddler use of pacifiers please;) This is strictly babies!!

Thanks for responding. I was just interested in your thought on that. I'm sure it's never a bridge you'd have to cross, but you never know...

As for excl. pumping, anyone who does it, my hat goes off to them. I pump to donate milk and it is a HECK of a job. I couldn't imagine doing it by choice. Also, it is much more likely to end up not having enough milk, as stimulation, even with the best pump avail. is only about 1/3 as effective as a baby. But I was interested to see your response. :-)

Exclusively Pump. I've been on these meds that are safe for 5 years so I'd go it another year (would have if I kept TTC).

I'd NEVER be comfortable or feel safe w/donated milk, wet nurse, etc.

thinking of which, you STILL avoided my question in another post: if your child was a rare one who couldn't take any formula (rare, but these people do exist) WHAT would you do?

bf & stay off the meds for another 12 mos or so?

or use donated milk? i realize you wouldn't like either but sometimes medical necessity forces our hand at something we didn't think of...

yeah, they are. unfortunately they're also very expensive.

i got a lovely present of terry flat nappies from england (24 of 'em) when dd1 was born. not one to look a gift horse in the mouth, i use them. they are plain & white. :-( but v. serviceable.

i did mention dipes tho, didn't i?

LOL...I was so upset when we gave up bottles at like 18 1/2-19 months and of course we ha already gone thru giving up the paci at about 14 1/2 months. To me this is just part of having a baby (like the things you mentioned are part of having a baby to you).

I just love buying those cute things...of course, I love buying anything cute for babies! I've been adorning my niece w/goodies...now I'll have a new baby in the house!

too bad I can't colour-code my breasts then. ;-)

Since neither of my babies have ever had bottles, and most people I "hang out" with don't give bottles OR paci's on a regular basis, I'd have to say the topmost things I think of when I think "baby" are dipes, babywearing devices (ie sling) & toys (ie rattles).

Pacifires are just the cutest to me! They are "baby" things. When I think of baby things I think of bottles, pacifires as the top 2 'things' for babies! LOL

I love a baby w/a pacifire in its mouth...just adorable!

Oh, I matched EVERYTHING! I'd decide on his little outfit, then pick out coordinating blankets, pick the matching bottles and pacifires to use, I have to have EVERYTHING coordinated! And I'm just like this about our new baby!!!!! I buy things to all match...i.e. I pick out an outfit then I find bottles & pacifires to match LOL I love it!

I'll use pacifires ANY day!

I also don't EVER give bottles in the car....first, if I'm driving and baby is old enough to hold its own...I still do NOT. I prefer to always hold my baby during feedings. And if I'm not driving I get way too car sick to ever think of sitting in the back seat...no matter if it is the car or suv!

Where's the "lost" icon? ;-) I posted something to this and it flew away into cyber space...

"However, he loved his paci from that first moment at the hospital when I cuddled him and snuggled him, rocked him, held him, while he slept on my tummy, when he was going to sleep, and during those first 6 wks in the vehichle as we were out & about....it was fabulous for him...he wanted his paci!"

I could see it in a vehicle. I mean, I think a bottle could be a choking hazard. But other than that...maybe a clean finger or something? There is something to be said for FEELING the force of suction IMHO and IME, to judge the hunger side of things. I do know of some kids who are really easy going and will suck on anything you give them and not really complain...and end up FTT.

"I can't imagine...of course, we had one of every color, every style to coordinate w/his clothes and blankets"

I gotta say...though I don't have anything against paci's when used "properly", I do think they're butt-ugly. ;-) I think the kids look like mini Hanibal Lecters with them in thier mouthes...so I had to lol at this image of matching stuff. ;-)
