Posting photos of nursing babies online

On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.

As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

>>Wow, how did you translate "I will take care of the immediate needs of my child even if anonymous person A disapproves" to mean that Jennifer goes though life with her middle finger prominently displayed?<<

I didn't take her comments to portray what you just said at all. And I'm not talking about nursing in public, again. The main problem here is that I have been talking about one thing and everyone keeps assuming I'm talking about nursing in public, and I don't know how many times I can say it but I'm not.

>>Where is this lack of respect that is so widespread? I rarely see women NIP, and I've absolutely never seen anyone nursing in a way that could be construed as disrespectful.<<

I live in a place where it's pretty common. And I'm pretty much talking about the boob siggy anyways. I nursed in public for about 4 years, combined, and I never once came across anyone who disapproved,(or even looked at me funny) so I guess we're even. ;)

In the English language, middle finger = F Word.

I'm talking about the supposed "bashing" comments. Trackback is always helpful. Again I NURSED IN PUBLIC AND THINK IT'S A GREAT THING. Quit debating what I haven't said.

I'll bet not one of the mommies pictured are looking for a pat on the back.

Taste is in the eye of the beholder. I'm sure that there are many people that would find a photo of a scrotum to be offensive no matter how tastefully it was photographed.

We're *still* talking about that? I already told you I find them to be pretty rude; you're welcome to your opinion as well. Moving right along...

>>I was thinking respect as in... don't walk around with your boob hanging out, make a concerted effort to be discreet, don't put giant boob pictures on every one of your posts... LOL. Especially in my area, I come across a lot of women who want to further the cause of breastfeeding by being extra exhibitionist about it. I just don't think that works, I think that moves it backwards. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's the way I feel about it. >>

Siggie photos aside, who gets to decide what is discreet...the server at Applebees, the security guard at the mall, another mother or the bfing mom herself? Do you have to drape yourself in a tent? Someone is always going to be offended at the idea of bfing, and they really don't deserve respect imo. Woman are harrassed and asked to leave and stop doing 'that' every day. It has to stop. Babies = bfing has got to become as everyday as babies = bottles is now. It's so not a big deal.

The way I see it, common sense would lead mothers to NOT bf. Bf is oftentimes socially unacceptable, it is bothersome, it is difficult to learn, it is saturated in politics and it is battle #1 in the Mommy Wars.

Those who actually stick with it do not tend to find it bothersome, not difficult to learn and don't give two hoots about its political saturation.
