Posting photos of nursing babies online
| Wed, 09-05-2007 - 10:52am |
On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.
As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

CL, Breast vs. Bottle Debate

"Never said you were, but your post does make it sound as if you believe that most people think just as you do, when I would say a great percentage do not."
Again, if the majority, or even the near majority disagreed with me, women wouldn't be staging "nurse-ins" at Applebees and other places, that disgusting photo of Ms Gyllenhal(sp) wouldn't be newsworthy, women wouldn't be complaining of being thrown off airplanes, and being asked to cover themselves in public...
As a pp pointed out, the issue with the photos is not about the breastfeeding in and of itself. It is the blatant display of naked breasts that has people upset. Some of the photos managed to show a baby bfing without showing the breast....I have no problem with those ones. Unfortunately, the majority of the pics show more boob than baby, and some were even topless.
Thank you for your support to my post.
I have friends, who either had babies who were born with issues, or they themselves had issues, and could not B/F for whatever reason.
Less than 5% of mothers TRULY can't breastfeed.
Many of them have had their feelings hurt by comments like that.
I (or anyone else for that matter) can't MAKE anyone feel anything.

I didn't say majority.
"Get real.
Can I ask you a question? I'm not making a judgement; I am genuinely curious as to your opinion.
Your siggy pic of yourself seems to show you wearing a tank top with spaghetti straps. I'm sure you look very nice in it! :O) But if you think a pic of nursing babies is indecent to look at, how do you justify wearing a shirt that exposes so much of your own skin? I trust your are not letting much of your breasts show at all when you wear it, but don't you think the suggestion is there? You have mentioned modesty in this debate before; do you think this shirt epitomizes modesty about one's body? I'm really just curious. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Nice try. ;) That pic was taken of me on the beach

What do you mean, "nice try"? I asked you a question out of curiosity, I wasn't trying to trip you up or something.

What would constitute a "tasteful pic depicting BF", in your opinion? Please don't say one where the baby has a blanket over its head, LOL.
No one here would ever even dream of encouraging you to breastfeed. We can see from your posts that you are adamantly against it, so why would we waste our time there?
Breastfeeding in general is not considered offensive, so it's not like we put the tag there specifically to offend you or anyone. However, if it does offend you, then just don't look at it. So you looked at it the first time and saw a breast. Offended? Disgusted? Deal with it! I am sure this tag is not the first offensive thing you've seen in your life and certainly it won't be the last. The rest of us have to see things we don't like every single day and you don't see all of us complaining about it. Now you know it's there, so if you continue to look at it and be bothered by it, then that's your own fault.
