Posting photos of nursing babies online

On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.
As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

Here's what I don't get. This whole thing was started by one or two women stating that they are "huge fans" of freedom of speech, yet they didn't "enjoy" seeing other women exercise that right. When someone says they are a huge fan, I assume they are supportive of free speech. Well, how can someone be supportive of freedom of speech, but NOT supportive of seeing

Of course they can, just as those are getting upset because someone (or a few) stated that they didn't like the signatures.

Some people find legs disrespecful, others find feet disrespectful, and other even find faces shown, especially in pictures, to be disrespectful. Should we all just cover our legs, feet and faces in case we might upset someone, or should those people do what makes them comfortable and not force their views on others? I lived in Saudi Arabia as a child and my mom didn't even have to cover her face there! And they have a view that women's faces should be covered. They were clear that she was to wear dresses when she went out but that the face covering was not necessary. It may be stricter now but in the early 80s it wasn't. I just personally take the view that if I don't like to see something I don't look. Same for siggy's! Even if it is big and flashing you CAN choose not to look at it.

I think this about says it all.
"...but that's getting muddied with some absurd "freedom of expression" argument which 90+ posts later I still don't understand."
That made me laught. I'm right there with you!

Interesting question! In my particular case (my little guy is Dex in case you have any desire to sit and watch the pix scroll by) I didn't have a shirt or bra on in that pic, so I generally don't have that much flesh exposed when I nurse. BUT, during this rather hot summer there were times when I

I'm for awareness of testicular cancer. I'm sure many would be offended if I posted a photo.
Lets try it and see what kind of debate THAT one sparks! (lol)
Seriously, though, I wouldn't be offended, but the comparison is a bit absurd, frankly. You can't see anything in any of those photos that you don't see on a daily basis at the beach, mall, in Vogue, etc. Plus, there's a REASON for the breasts to be exposed in those images (even if you think the images are unnecesary, the babies still are in fact eating in them) but there would be no 'reason' for a testicle to be in a pic. That said, I still think we should try it, but have a feeling IV might object.

You know what I DO like about the tag?
The unbelievably blissful look on those babies' faces.
I read through some of these and I have to say that I am so surprised that so much would be talked about on this subject. I have seen these kinds of pictures posted everywhere on iVillage and love them. I have never seen a baby nurse in public and it was interesting to see. I am a rather curious person by nature and it was lovely to see babies nursing especially since I hope one day to do so myself. Some of the babies do look happy and some are smiling and I love baby smiles.
What is disconcerting is that so many people are upset by this. It makes me weary to even try NIP which is sad because I would rather see more people comfortable nursing in public then not. Perhaps this is why I have yet to see anyone doing so, and I have lived in two major cities in Ontario.
