Posting photos of nursing babies online

On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.

As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

There's nothing wrong with the question. I meant still nursing as opposed to having school age, pre teen, or teen children, therefore no longer nursing. I ask because it seems that the most vocal are those who are "still in the throes of it" so to speak. I just thought it was interesting.

I'm a little different... I'm a huge fan of sarcasm... as long as it is not being used to belittle someone.

I don't think that you do either. I have seen nothing but respectful and well thought out posts from you. :) It's the ones who say things like.. (and I'm sure there are better examples) "You must be bitter/jealous because you fed your baby inferior food". I don't like when people say BF is gross, but I also don't like when people tell FF mothers that they are doing harm to their children, or are bad mothers.

If we understand eachother, yet don't agree, then we have done what we set out to do, I think. :)

That even though something may not be inherently obscene, it can still be inappropriate.

It's just that IME, iVillage is not "for mothers", or even "for women." It may be marketed that way, but I have found a pretty diverse set of people hang out here.

I mean, this site is advertised on the Today Show for goodness sake.

Well... to be honest... they don't make me uncomfortable at all, in fact, I don't really care. But... I do understand why other people might be. I guess I'm playing the devil's advocate a bit.

>>I'm a huge fan of sarcasm. <<

Yeah, me too. But the greater powers on iVillage have banned sarcasm from this board claiming that it can never be respectful.

What happened to that thread?

Edited to add:
The statement on sarcasm is in the "about this board" folder
>>Sarcasm should never be used in a mature and respectful debate.<<

>>...I also don't like when people tell FF mothers that they are...bad mothers.<<

Did someone say that FFers are bad mothers on this thread? Maybe in the deleted threads? Because I haven't yet seen "bad mother" comments on this debate board. But I think at some point a nickel was supposed to change hands every time someone says it happens...

>>I also don't like when people tell FF mothers that they are doing harm to their children...<<

Huh? You mean when people say FF is risky? If you don't "like it" why would you participate in the debate? The fact that not breastfeeding is risky is a large part of why breastfeeding is recommended by all health organizations. Maybe I just don't understand your comment - still trying to keep up with the thread...
