Posting photos of nursing babies online

On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.

As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

Took me a while to figure out that TBH is "to be honest" - geez and I thought I was getting the hang of those acronyms.

I see now that the whole reference to testis CA was meant to be a joke, I guess it's just a little hard for me, due to my husband's orchietomy and subsequent retroperitoneal lymph node dissection.

I'd really like to answer you, but I've never posited that "being respectful" means "not NIP". I can't really defend something I've never said.

There is one pic that is obviously topless. It's not yours.

I personally took the most issue with the "jealous" .... Forgive me if I don't get into the BF/FF with you, I just finally finished an insanely long thread about it over on SAH/WOH and I don't think I'm up for it again! ;) That said, regardless of how right or wrong someone may be, I don't think it's ever right to deliberately set out to make them feel like a bad parent. I know that some say "We can't make you feel anything..." but the stuff that some pro-bfers say, especially to new moms who are already hormonal, I think it can make someone feel something, even if they have no reason to.

And I, rightly or wrongly, don't think it's OK to accuse people of "setting out to make others feel like a bad parent", when in fact, it's not done.

It was sort of a joke, but I think I also have a point with it.

>>So by your line of reasoning I could create a photo tag "supporting" circumcison, piercing baby girls ears, spanking, Adult Couples nursing, or lighting up a doobie for all that(it is legal in some places), and that would help make it more socially acceptable? <<

I'm not sure I can say this diplomatically, but my intent is to do just that.

Yes, positive exposure is one of the known ways to combat prejudice. Prejudice has a base in the fear of the unknown, so as people become accustomed to something (such as NIP or photos of breastfeeding or myriad other topics) their tolerance/acceptance of it builds. As a culture becomes familiar with a behavior, it in fact becomes socially acceptable ie divorce, talking about cancer, smoking (40's) , not smoking (90's), homosexuality, women in the workplace, etc.
