Posting photos of nursing babies online
| Wed, 09-05-2007 - 10:52am |
On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.
As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

THANK YOU for this post! This is what I have been trying to convey all along. Why is it a problem that I "don't care" what people think of seeing me BF, but not a problem if they require me to do things to ease their discomfort, sometimes at my own expense or that of my baby. Why are their delicate sensibilities more important that my child's right to eat, or my right to feed him wherever and whenever it needs to happen? I definitely agree they might be the ones behaving selfishly and rudely in that situation, and not me!>>>>>>>
Great post! That is completely how I felt, why should I be made less uncomfortable, ie, nursing in the car or another room while everyone else is having a great time, so that someone else will be more comfortable? I have BF in other rooms, and in the car because it is easier to keep track of my other boys that way, but that was choice. I was tired of the way I felt BFIP in my area, where I see it very rarely. I felt like I Had a giant spotlight on me and the disgusted looks I got made it clear. But no one should have to worry about making someone else more comfortable. Although it did come in handy sometimes when I wanted to escape for a few minutes of solitude, especially at family gatherings!

>>I think there is a big difference between not doing something that could lower risks, and actually causing harm. <<
Is there? Isn't the harm part implied? The risk ?
Not eating right and not exercising also put one at risk .

Yes, no.
Let me try another example. (It's morning, my brain is fresh, I can actually think of things! LOL) It's been reported lately that a glass of red wine a day reduces the risk of heart disease. (Let's assume it's completely true) Does that mean that someone who does not drink a glass of red wine daily is harming themselves? Personally, no, I don't think that they are. It's my opinion that using the word "harm" when talking about formula is inaccurate and inflammatory. It's loaded, emotionally charged language that only has only one obvious purpose.

Wonderfully put.
I don't know what to tell you. I can't exactly quote or link to posts that no longer exist. I am amazed, though, that you don't think anyone on the BF "side" of this debate has been rude.
She's right, she's absolutely right.
So what's 3rd.... regurgitation? ;)
