Posting photos of nursing babies online

On another board, a poster has a long siggy that includes a slideshow of nursing babies from her playgroup. Another poster took offense at it and there has been quite the debate over the appropriateness of the siggy. I posted a message inviting people here to discuss that issue, and I hope that one of the posters from that particular playgroup comes here, at least so we can see what the siggy looks like. I'm having a hard time forming coherent thoughts today, LOL! So don't worry if I don't come back to debate the issue with you, I'm trying to get out of the office so I can go home & sleep.
As "Linda Richmond" (aka Mike Myers) from SNL would say, "talk amongst yourselves."

"Well, that "SOMEONE" who had a big problem just may have been one of the CMs. "
Lol, yes,

Ahem, I told you that your statement was "unnecessarily mean" when you said it was "attitudes" like mine (WRT NIP) that made you "ashamed" to have BF your kids. I never called you a "meany" because you "disagreed" with me. You made a statement that felt like a personal attack. Please get the story straight if you're going to continue this 300 posts later.
Carolyn, it is so good to "see" you! I went and grabbed my can after reading your post and not one of the ingredients is listed on it that you listed. Except of course SYNTHETIC VITAMINS which most nursing mothers take prenatal vitamins

No, it's NOT BREASTFEEDING that increases the risk, just like not putting your child in a carseat increases their risk of serious injuries or death in the event of an accident. If you choose not to put your child in a carseat and you DO get into an accident and they are harmed the actual harm is caused by the ACCIDENT, not the lack of a carseat... however, if the child HAD BEEN in a carseat, the damage would most likely have been much less.
Not using a carseat deprives a child of a normal, reasonable level of safety in the event of an accident.... formula deprives a child of a normal level of health in the event of being exposed to an illness or infection. Some kids who are not in carseats will not be harmed in an accident, or if they are, their injuries may only be minor. (bumps, bruises, etc.) Some children in carseats may be seriously injured or killed in an accident. Does this mean that carseats do not actually reduce the risk of injury in the event of an accident? Some kids who do not get breastmilk will not get sick or if they do, they have only minor illnesses. Some breastfed kids will get seriously ill and even die. Does this mean that breastfeeding doesn't really protect kids from illness, infection and disease?
The risk of DEATH during the first year DOUBLES if you don't breastfeed. I don't know the statistics for carseat use, but I'd imagine they offer a similar level of protection. Not breastfeeding increases a child's risk of ear infections by 3-4 times and increases the duration of ear infections by an average of 3 days. Not using a carseat increases your child's risk of having minor to moderate injuries in the event of an accident.
If a parent CHOOSES not to put their child in a carseat and they ARE in an accident where the child is injured or even killed, will you say "it wasn't the fact that they weren't in a carseat that hurt/killed them, but the fact that they were in an accident"?
After all, "you have to attribute the increase/decrease of risk to the thing that is doing the work". According to your logic, not using carseats doesn't cause injuries or death, car accidents do.
Most children will never be in a serious accident... but why would someone take that chance with their child by not using a carseat just because the odds are good that it won't happen to them? Most children will not get diabetes, cancer, or other serious illness/diseases, but why would someone take that chance with their child by not breastfeeding just because the odds are good that it won't happen to them?

Still breastfeeding my 19mo daughter. :-)

I wrote: That said, my difficulty with the post is the person saying they're supportive of BF and THEN saying "but do i really have to see those photos". Its like someone starting off a sentance with, "I'm openminded, but...". Had the person just left off that statement and then said, "I don't like that particular tag" it would have bothered me less.
Then you replied: I totally disagree, they aren't the same at all.
