"Proud Formula Feeder"?

In my playgroup, I've noticed some members have a blinkie I haven't seen before: "Proud Formula Feeder". In the past, I've seen the "Formula Feeding Mom" and "It's formula, not rat poison", but this new one struck me as odd. I can understand simply stating that you formula feed or saying that formula isn't rat poison (because it isn't), but I've been trying to figure out just why someone would be "proud" to FF.

While I don't think that women should necessarily feel guilty about not BF, I don't get what about FF there is to be proud about. Most (or maybe even all) of the women with said blinkie acknowledge that breastmilk is better, so why would they be proud to feed their babies something they know is substandard, even if they couldn't BF and FF was their only choice? What do you ladies think? Is/should there be such a thing as FF pride?

"When you drink milk/ eat beef, would you feel safer eating from the cow that was naturally fed or fed artificially? Exactly, now why do you want to do the same thing to your babies (load them up with hormones; deprive them of optimal health). "

Just FYI - if you don't raise your own beef and dairy cows, you *are* eating beef/drinking milk that has been pumped with hormones, etc... It sounded like you think you have a lot of options at the supermarket... the rest I kind of agree - except 50 yrs ago was also about the time Mc Donald's got popular, could be a coincidence... too hard to seperate out the various factors as to why Americans are so unhealthy ,to be able to pinpoint *one* factor as solely responsible. I wouldn't want to see one thing blamed when there are so many reasons.

When she came to see her new baby brother the first time, she actually asked, "Where's his bottle?">>

Lol, my girls were the same way. My 2 year old weaned while I was pregnant, and they still insisted that the baby brother needed a bottle.

Maybe you are confusing WIC and other forms of assistance? (food stamps, medicaid, cash benefit and daycare assistance?)

Those type of assistance require the person to have an extremely low income (I want to say 70% of the poverty level?). However, if your friends ex-husband still lives with her, she could be in trouble for committing fraud since all forms of assistance require you to list all persons you live with.

WIC on the other hand pays out to about 200% of povert level, well into the "working" class.

I don't think it's ridiculous at all for a tax payer to not want to support a FF who is perfectly capable of feeding breastmilk to her baby. I don't support mandatory BF for WIC mothers since I know alot of them are employed in jobs that make BF (specifically pumping) difficult, but it's pretty absurd not to see the absurdity in using government resources to replace a FREE substance with one that's expensive and inferior. I don't find that being a case of a woman being dictated to; I find BF support among WIC clients to be a fiscally sound use of tax dollars. If she doesn't want to breastfeed, she is free to buy her own formula.

Exactly!

WOW, that's some chip you got on your shoulder! For entertainment value alone I hope nobody reports the blatant TOS violations in that post.

Your posts are becoming more and more insulting and the violations of TOS are piling up. Since this thread will probably be deleted eventually thanks to you, I'll throw this one in...shouldn't someone with superior intelligence know how to spell intelligence?

If the first best is unavailable b/c mom's had a mastectomy, does that make formula #1 because the first best availability is an irrelevent 3rd?
