Recall Brings Out the Mean in FFers?

Comments made by BFers about how their milk won't be recalled and there are no beetles in their milk - are getting horrible comments in response:

"You should be ashamed of yourselves!!! How would you feel if your little baby wasn't feeling well or not eating??? Just terrible. "

"And those rude comments come from breastfeeding nazis....."

"Seriously, you breastfeeding psychos need to get off your high horses and GET A LIFE!!!"

"BTW, breastfeeders, come off it already!! some of you are polite about it, but so many of you talk down to us formula moms and act like you are a superior person because you suckle your child."

"It's retarded how it seems to be a competition when it's a freakin recall."

"breastfeeders are not superior and need to get off their pedestal."

"Get off your breastfeeding high horse. It's a turn-off for would-be breastfeeders."

"I Honestly am sorry to all the formula feeding moms out there that have had to put up with crazy, phyco breastfeeding moms"

"I'm more mad at the moms on here using this opportunity to make an even bigger wedge between formula and breastfeeding moms."

"Breastfeeding crazies annoy the heck out of me!!!"

"Some people(by 'people' I mean militant-psycho-scary-BFing-mamas) just need to realize that life happens."

How about the comments from the FFers - are they being held to the same harsh standard?

"Thankfully NONE of my powder is in the recall, & we use premade anyways."

"I'm glad I switched to the wal-mart brand of it when D.J. was 2 weeks old!"

"We used Alimentum for a while, but we're now using Gerber Good Start soy. MM loves it and right now I'm grateful she's not on Similac."

"As much as I hate the smell of Nutramistink--oops, I mean Nutramigen--I am thankful that it is just what the doctor ordered for my little man!"

"Oh, and me and DH have been referring to Similac now as Beetlejuice. Hahaha! Thought you guys would get a kick out of that."

"Thank god the formula I have is not recalled"

"My son is 15 days old and I had him on Similac Ready-To-Feed Formula and he was fine."

"Wouldn’t you feel silly if you found out there is absolutely nothing in the formula and it was fine."

One mom commented that BFers should not even be reading and commenting - should that be true of moms who don't use Similac?

"If you (don't use Similac) why is it even necessary to read a post about a formula recall (unless you are doing it to inform your friends), nevermind comment cruelly on it? Feel fortunate it doesn't affect you -- and move on."

Kind of puts the kibosh on the whole "there's no double standard!" thing, doesn't it? I hope there are plenty of angry blog posts out there about how mean the FF'ers are being about this recall thing, since there are mass quantities of them about BF'ers right now.

I think the supposed "mean" bfer comments are tame, compared to the anti-bfing Gisele comments which were horrid.

I agree with Thistle that the ffers comments in this case are way worse than the bfers. I'm sure there are others who will see it differently, but the anti-bfer's comments are out of proportion, IMO.

How dare those mean, holier-than-thou militant non-Similc-using FFers rub their noses in the recall! *fanning face*

I actually don't think there is a double standard--each side apparently thinks the other side is mean and their own side isn't.

I completely disagree. It's a double standard, pure and simple.

And do you see that happening when the shoe is on the other foot? When a bf mom is struggling to succeed at bf for whatever reason, do the ff moms refrain from posting? They do not. If they post, do they only offer encouragement to the mother? They do not. Instead, they post to the mother telling her to quit, and quit now. She'll feel so much better. In fact, the only people who get criticized in this scenario are the ones who encourage her to stick with it. The ones who provide support get called "Nazis" for offering support and solutions instead of a quick ff way out. I see it all the time on iV, women who even post in advance of the support/solution posts to encourage the OP not to listen to any bf advice on it.

THAT'S the double-standard. When the bf advocate suggests ff stop ff, ff say she's mean. When the bf advocate suggests that the bf having trouble sticks with it, ff say she's mean. The double-standard means that the only way a bf advocate cannot be mean is if she encourages everyone to ff. And then she's hardly a bf advocate anymore. I could attempt to see and agree with your position if I hadn't seen this happen at least 100 times just on iV.
