First of all, sorry for the CL-hat. I am still having problems with it. It won't show up when I need it to, and then it won't go away when I don't want it there. Please forgive me, Ladies!

Anyway.....

Someone here mentioned a friend that did a taste test of formulas. Well, my girlfriend and I were talking about this board and I mentioned that to her. She uses Enfamil and I had a sample of Similac Advance, so we did a taste test!

I have to say...the Enfamil was AWFUL! It had a very metallic taste to it. I don't know how babies don't protest it. Now, the Similac wasn't so bad. In fact, it tasted almost like regular cow's milk. There was a HUGE difference in taste, though.

Could it be because the Enfamil was powder and the Similac was one of those ready-to-feed bottle samples?

Did any of the FF'ing Moms do a taste test as part of their decision in choosing formula?

Now I am curious as to whether they all taste different! Very interesting....

LOL Lisa! That was my friend who did the taste test! She found the same thing you did, that the Similac tasted best (she used all powdered formulas). She found it tasted most like her bm.

Now, I never did a test myself, Similac was what was given to me after I switched to ff at the hospital. I felt more comfortable with it once my girlfriend told me about her taste test.

I wonder if there is a difference in tastes between powdered and ready use (or concentrate) of the same formula? I remembered how foul my girlfriends daughters formula smelled (used ProSobee), and I was really shocked that the Similac did not smell foul at all (I was sure I would have to plug my nose!).

Anyway, very cool that you did the taste test! I will have to tell my girlfriend she *inspired* someone!

Judi (who's been away far too long from the board...taking a breather getting used to the new format!)

I tasted dd's Enfamil (we used Low Iron first, then switched to Iron fortified). The low iron didn't really taste bad, a little chalky, though. The Iron fortified definitely did have a vitamin taste that I didn't particularly like, but dd didn't flinch when we switched. We did use similac once when the store was out of Enfamil, and it did smell sweeter, but I didn't taste it.

Just a thought here - my neighbor's DS is 1 and is now drinking whole cow's milk. However, he used to drink Enfamil, and he tries to steal his daycare buddy's bottle with Enfamil in it all the time. He actually likes the formula better than cow's milk. Go figure! I never did a taste test (and now I feel AWFUL for it, but I didn't think of it!) but it SMELLS gross.

Deb,

That's funny! I guess it's all what they're used to!
