What do you carry in your diaper bag? Do you carry less being a breastfeeder? Do you carry more being a formula feeder? Is there a big difference or is it the same? Why do you carry or not carry the things you do?

Well, I don't carry a diaper bag anymore, but when I did, it was a very small one. A Land's End Little Tripper. :o) I kept a couple diapers & small thing of wipes in there. When my baby was older, I'd put a small snack & sippy cup in there, too. Oh, and sometimes an extra outfit, usually a one piece thing that was easy to fold up small.

The less I have to tote along with me, the better, really.

I cart it all around, I believe in being prepared. Whether it is a 30min trip, a 3hr trip, or an all day trip. The diaper bag is always packed the same way.

2-3 extra outfits (including socks, hats, onesies)

2-3 cloth diapers

changing pad

several diapers

baby lotion

A & D ointment

Vaseline (for circumsion there for awhile at beginning)

Toys when they get older

Baby food after 6mo w/spoons (several jars)

When old enough cheerios, crackers

Infant medicine (just in case, I'm prepared with tylenol, motrin)

The little thingy to clean out their nose (can't remember techy name right now)

Pacifires (more than one) and pacifire holders (again, more than one)

Juices (after 6mo) and bottles for that

baby wipes

Camera and film

The only thing formula feeding adds to me is the formula and sterile water because I'd still be toting bottles as I wouldn't NIP. And with all the stuff above I'm going to take anyway a few extras is no big deal.

Good thing you didn't ask me to list what I carry on a regular basis in my purse, we could be here all night lol

Good subject, LOL!

I carry: a tiny tube of diaper cream, about 5 dipes, wipes, and a change of clothing (complete change) for each child. That takes up the most room I think.

I also carry a smaller bag apart with a small manual breast pump in it (this stays in the car but is always "with us" in long trips...) 'just in case'.

In the main diaper bag with the kid's stuff, I also have a couple of those heat packs that you shake and they heat up...for winter for anyone or for plugged ducts for me. ;-) I also carry lansinoh (small tube) for my nipples in case it's needed. I usually have one toy or so as a distraction, no more than 2 unless on a plane trip, LOL. Sometimes I have snacks (fruit leather in individual wraps, water in a spill-proof container), not always.

I think that's about it. Oh, plastic bags to carry home dirty clothes. ;-)

& I forgot the obligatory sling. ;-) But my so-called "diaper bag" is actually the bottom compartment on a big backpack that I carry DD(s) around in.

Oooh I forgot about the:

Purell pump

Medicated cleansing gauze

Sunblock (in spring/summer)

I've been carrying these things for over 7years now for my oldest also! I carried a diaper bag until probably 2yrs ago lol Now I'm going to be carrying another one for 5 years or so. Thanks for the reminder. Duh, it is late and I have insomnia lol

I like being prepared too, but I don't waste time on baby food, LOL. If I have to tote it about with me, it doesn't come. ;-) Food is avail. everywhere and there's usually something for DD to play with...a noodle or a pickle or a soft-cooked carrot. ;-) I toss something her way and if she cares to put it in her mouth and chew on it, so be it. Otherwise, she nurses. ;-)

As for camera...I've got a digicam that I take sometimes, but it's not in the diaper bag per se.

And as for medications...I don't go that far unless taking a longer trip (ie overnight perhaps) b/c I figure I can get tylenol if it's URGENT at a pharmacy, besides which if it's *that* urgent I'll likely be making a trip to emerg. But I am thinking I should perhaps add a bandaid or 2 to my stuff... ;-)

Where I go baby food isn't always avail. You'd find none at the following places:

My mothers

My sil

My mil

Restaurants (mcdonalds or otherwise)

The mall

We go with baby food for the first few months, infant cereals, so I have no option of just finding something unless I happen to be near or in a walmart or grocery store. So I do have to carry it with me.

Actually, I always have two cameras and a camcorder with me but I put one camera and extra film in the diaper bag, the others stay in the car.

Same thing with the foods. I can't stand not having it with me. I can't stand having to stop and buy what I already have at home and could have had in the diaper bag with some forethought.

I usually have a couple of disposible nappies and a packet of wipes plus a fold-up changing pad, a couple of small toys or books, a warm jacket (in winter) or a sunhat and sunblock (in summer) and, now that DS is older a snack and a sippy cup of water. I also have *my* stuff in there which usually adds up to wallet, keys, cellphone and a sportsbottle of water. What's in there varies with the trip though - for a quick trip to the shops I won't take it at all if we're out for the day I'll add more food and toys and maybe a bib and a full change of clothes.
