I came originally to defend my PG's BFing tag, and stayed b/c it seemed like an interesting debate, and I'm still here b/c I've made good friends here and I'm very interested in the topic.

I came here because it was a boring long holiday weekend and my other board was dead that day, and because megabeach told me there was a lively discussion going on over here. I've stayed for several reasons. I've been passionate about bf'ing since I was pg with my first. I love to collect facts, I love to read scientific studies, and I love to debate. I also love the underdog which on this particular board is the ff'er, though when it comes up on other boards often the bf'ing position is the underdog position. After going through the very difficult process of having to use formula when all I wanted to do was bf'd, I identify as strongly with the ff'er position as I do with the bf'ing position although each for different reasons, and so I always find something in the bf/ff debate that interests me.

I initially came here because it's a good source of information. If there's a study out there it's been posted here! I came to enjoy the personalities of the posters and I enjoy discussing a topic that's near and dear to my heart. I don't know that it's a "passion," but there is a lot of ignorance out there (this is not directed at anyone, or any group, in particular) and it makes me feel better to discuss it somewhere appropriate, where I won't have to worry about being either judgemental or an oddity (for practicing child-led weaning).

I initially came to the BFvsFF debate 11 years ago on another forum (AOL) until those boards were disbanded.

I've been around here in some form or another for almost 6 years. I first came, as a lurker only, when I became pregnant with my first child in early 2005. I was still very much on the fence about whether I'd BF or FF, and I wanted to read more about the choices so that I could decide what I wanted to do. I didn't come here religiously, and I didn't read everything, but I liked to skim and lurked a fair amount, and continued to do so after he was born too. I didn't post anything until he was about 18 months old, after which point I quickly became a "regular" and began to really enjoy contributing to the debate.

Over my time here, I have gone from being a very wishy-washy "BF is great if you can do it" kind of gal to being a very passionate advocate for BF online and IRL. I have gotten very involved with my local LLL group and have made friends there and have had the opportunity to help women in my community with their feeding concerns and issues. I have also felt, in recent months, my interest and passion about BF shift from helping others and debating online, to wanting to do more of that stuff IRL instead.

I don't feel that this board is providing the kind of stimulation and vigorous, interesting conversation that it once did, unfortunately. That makes me sad because I miss it a lot, but I know that our CL's have continued to work hard to foster that kind of atmosphere here, and that online cultures change and these things happen. Part of my loss of interest also has to do with my own growth as a mother and as an advocate, and I no longer feel much need to defend or uphold my own choices in most online environments. I am who I am, and I do what I do. I'd rather help people who truly want my help as opposed to trying to convert the masses.

I keep coming back here because I care very much for many of the women I have met here, and I like to read about their lives and the ways in which feeding and other parenting choices impact their lives and their children's lives, and I have learned so much from so many of them that I like to be in touch to continue that process. I'm a very different mother and person in general because of my time here, and I appreciate those here who have given me those opportunities for growth.

Ah, I remember that! It was around 2005! I remember they had to change the name from "Hot Topics: The Breastfeeding Police" to "Those Breastfeeding Ads" because it caused a controversy right off the bat.

I came here because IRL I don't really know that many people who are passionate about BF. My older sister sees it as a nutrition source and does it for "as long as she can stand it." My younger sister is
