OK, I don't think anyone really denies that it is ultimately every mom's decision.

" "There are millions of factors that go into how we as people end up, and it is ludicrous to think that a study can isolate FFing as the sole difference in all the babies involved."

So you also think that smoking is safe?

Seriously? You're contesting thousands of studies that demonstrate clear and convincing evidence of breastmilk's vast superiority over formula, as well as formula's demonstrated ill effects on the health and growth of infants? On what basis? You do realize the methodology behind these "so-called studies" accounts for variables other than formula? However, formula still is the factor unique to the group with the poorer outcomes. Its kind of like that saying, "the common denominator in all your dysfunctional relationships is you." You can dismiss these studies all you want, but the fact remains that they have by and large been held up to scrutiny and their data is pretty sound.

So you're saying that the common factor in a study showing an increased incidence in -- for example -- ear infections can be both formula *and* secondhand smoke? How is it that the formula fed infants were exposed to this "unknown" but the breastfed infants weren't?

A PP asserted something similar, using the example of water in the ears being a contributing factor to ear infections in formula fed babies, thus accounting for the higher rates of OM in this group. She wasn't able to explain how the breastfed group managed to avoid the water while the formula fed babies were being drenched. Perhaps you can shed some light on this phenomenon of how these "unknowns" only seem to affect one group.
