OK, I don't think anyone really denies that it is ultimately every mom's decision.

Yes, I wouldn't send my kids out to play in the snow with no coat. Though I do think, as long as they aren't out for extended periods of time where hypothermia becomes a risk, that the risk in the snow is more to the extremeties. I tend to go overboard on gloves and hats, and less thick on the coats. ;-)

But I regularily go out to get the mail from the mailbox in little more than a t-shirt, even in winter. :-)

>>While it's true that study after study after study shows F to come up short, the media blames breastfeeding for just about everything. Vitamin D deficiany - breastfeeding indicted, Infant overweight - breastfeeding indicted, mom has glass of wine - breastfeeding indicted.<<

Interesting points to think on....thanks. I really never considered the media and their views on bfing on the local "Health Watch at 5:30" or whatever bs it is that says something is good for you one week and then bad the next!!! I really didn't think that many people paid much attention to that tripe!

""Unless you're Bill Gates you will always have to budget one way or another. Just saying..."""

Actually you don't have to be bill gates to not budget! When you have one income that sufficiently provides without anything else, then any Xtra $$ is simply not budgeted! For spending! it is what we call our free $$ lol
We do of course budget our Main income - but the xtra is simply that - Xtra - for whatever, we got very lucky in our situation cause the orig plan was me to SAH FT and DH work, and we would have been fine formula and all, but we got lucky and have xtra. Luck, that is all, has its pros and cons, but it is working.

Good point - i hear that stuff a lot. However i usually dismiss the blame game stories..... but it is a good point.

You certainly don't have to answer me, but do you have emergency savings and college accounts set up for your kids?

But figuring out how much discretionary income you have IS budgeting.

""but do you have emergency savings and college accounts set up for your kids? I'm just wondering if your budget (or non budget) includes those things. """

Of course we do!! that is all from DH income.
The only reason this was all mnentioned is because finances are a big factor in deciding BF or FF - and i mentioned that in my fam, we could afford F - wether i worked or SAH - the part time job i got now is purely extra. So it is not in the budgeted at all, simply extra "fun money" we like to keep it that way so no matter what, if one loses job (G/F) then we will still be ok KWIM? it was totally unexpected - after we decided to not do DC and have me SAH FT and DH WOH FT - this was just extra.
I spent so many years budgeting with my FB.......

""Let's try something smaller: You want a new dress, but you also want a new outfit for your boys. Who gets clothes? That's budgeting money, no matter what you call it."""

Clothes are not Extra - they are a necessity they are already in the monthly income wether i work or not. (my income is extra not DH's) lol
