I said I breastfed for 6 months, I didn't say exclusively. Secondly, with matters concerning human biology I am a bit surprised that something is 100%, usually the human

Diplomacy is the art of saying 'Nice doggie!'... till you can find a rock.
I found this, though I don't know what it means other than "no major statistical variations" I found two other studies if someone wants to interpret the results, it seems where there is a difference it can be countered by the type of formula used? Does anyone else read it that way?
"In general, there were no major statistical variations in the findings for the two feeding regimes. However, Escherichia coli was found to be more dominant (p=0.042) in the gut flora of 6-week-old formula-fed neonates, while there was a tendency for Bifidobacterium spp. to be more prevalent in the gut flora of breastfed neonates at 2-5 days (p=0.108)." http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=17380814
"CONCLUSIONS: In breast-fed infants with atopy, gut barrier function is improved after cessation of breast-feeding and starting of hypoallergenic formula feeding." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14676602?dopt=AbstractPlus
"Total amounts of the other bacteria were comparable between the groups. The specific Bifidobacterium microbiota composition of the breast-fed infants was achieved in infants receiving prebiotic supplemented formula. This would suggest that early gut Bifidobacterium microbiota can be modified by special diets up to the age of 6 months." http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=16380384

Geez, people. I am gone for five days and you rack up a 500+ thread on me...
Back to reading the 350 responses I still have yet to read.
Ok, back to your debate.

I think what's missing in the "facts and science" above is the balance. Depending on who you are talking to you, you leave the other side out. There are things that make FF an acceptable alternative, even preferred in some cases (though not common). If your post had balance it would not sound so evil. And I think on the whole, the early part of the thread had that balance, and when Lee showed up it started sounding like FF was a sure fire way to harm or kill your baby.>>
I think there are mothers who may even say they made an 'informed choice' but who do not actually understand statistics of risk (as opposed to certainty), and I really therefore think the mothers concerned are not being evil.
However, yes, I do think the marketing tactics by formula companies that make formula seem quite reasonable, not at all risky, and even in some countries like China recently, actually better than breastmilk, are evil. All in the name of profit.
I am wondering what you mean by 'if my post had balance'. The poster I was responding to specifically asked about deaths from formula. So I responded with facts. I am not sure why that makes my post sound evil.
To be quite honest, my personal feelings are that I feel somewhat sad for the babies who miss out on breastfeeding - that's my 'feelings' on the matter.
I also feel angry about formula companies who knowingly push a substandard substancce and have done so for many years, covering up the truth. Almost sounds like the profiteering tobacco companies who hid the truth about cigarettes for so long. That too was an evil act. But in this case, sadly, parents are believing they are doing a good/great thing, an quite innocently - I really think - in most cases, chose formula.

"Why would she need to be protective of me?"
I have no idea. I have *observed* the word choices made while responding to posts responding to you and they have a defending/protecting/standing up for quality to them.
You said;
"What happens to the gut of formula fed babies?"
I responded with;
"Ladies?
I tried to answer but can't seem to get the knowledge *I* have into words on the screen.
Help?"
And her very first words replying to THAT were;
"I know a little bit about this, but keep in mind she did bf'd."
WHERE is the relevance to your having breastfed if not to point out that you were a breast feeder?
From harmony's very first post, I had figured that she followed you over here from a shared board to "back you up". Just from the words she'd chosen to use.
So. Did you read the posts regarding sealed/open gut in infants?
Did your question get answered? I didn't want it to get lost in the "you said"/ "no I didn't" exchanges going on.
"What would you say if tests show that my DD's gut is properly sealed and she was not exclusively BFed for 6 months?"
I THOUGHT I smelled a set-up!!!
I'm shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, that you fell for that magpiemamma!
The correct response was "more ffed babies would have improperly sealed guts than bfed babies" because breast milk is the standard, not a magic elixir!
Well I guess those strange manufactured substance that comes from a strange cows body actually beats being fed cows milk, as my MIL and her twin were.>>>
I guess it depends on what you mean by "beats"...I mean, they all survived, right? That seems to be the only thing that matters to some people. What are your qualifications for "beats" cows milk? I'm not quite clear on what you mean, or if you are just being sarcastic?

Do you believe die hard bf'ers are interested in making it not sound evil? And how should they best go about that?>>>
As a "die hard" breastfeeder, I have no interest at all in the evil notion whatsoever. My interest is in educating people about the real risks involved. If they walk away feeling like formula is evil, that is their own interpretation.

I have also seen some pretty condescending comments directed at her.>>>>
Forgive my lateness, I'm in the middle of finals...
Anyway - not a single thing was said to Lee until she started speaking to us in that tone. I'm sure by now it's all been resovled.
