If the milk they based the formula on came from rats instead of cows?

Or asses?

Just curious...

sure, why not? What is wrong with rats?

I personally do not like them in my house, but they do have a place in the food chain and help maintain our world.

No. Because I believe their milk would be worse for a human baby than cow's milk. You didn't specify in your post that their milk would be better than cow's milk.

Hm...What is so good about the milk from a big, dumb vegetarian cow, compared to clever, omnivorous (like humans) rats?

I wonder if it all comes down to marketing? People will buy whatever they are told is best, and maybe what's cheapest? I bet getting the milk out of a rat would be an expensive propostion, lol...how about goats or pigs?

I'm just ruminating, not arguing...it was an interesting question...

No problem, I'm always happy to answer a carseat question, if I can.

Yes. Although it would probably take an awful lot of rats working overtime.

Did you see that episode of the simpsons? Where Homer is trying to stop the mayor and the mob from producing "rats milk" for the school kids? Homer fumbled across the room with hundreds of rats being milked, and then ran to the school and saw all these children drinking it.

If you think about it,a calf is born quite large (compared to a human baby) and they are built to digest the protein of a 400pnd+ mother cows milk. I would think that a rats protein to a human baby is like that of water. I couldn't imagine that this would be benifitcial to a growing human baby.

My breast feeding doctor/lactation consultant told me that the closest thing to human breast milk in consistancy and protein breakdown is "goats milk". When I weaned my son of the breast(at 17mnths) I had to wean him onto "goats milk" first off you just can't go to the corner store and pick it up. Most grocery stores carry it but it is expencive and has a short expiration date. I was fortunate to find the powdered and canned form that allowed it to keep longer.
