"Personally I would not equate choose formula for my infant as abandoning my unruly teenager. If that analogy works for you, okay, it doesn't ring true to me."

There are women in poor developing countries now who have bf'ing issues who aren't wealthly or working for the wealthy. They have really bad infant mortality rates and some do cross nursing or wet nursing and sometimes the babies don't make it or only make it because a relative nurses the baby. The presence of formula alone does not create the problem. Some moms don't nurse even without formula, back then and today and not just the wealthy or the hired wet nurses.

I was talking about an abusive mom, abusive to her own children not wanting to bf'd subsequent children, I wouldn't push her that's all.

<<I was talking about an abusive mom, abusive to her own children not wanting to bf'd subsequent children, I wouldn't push her that's all.>>

Yes, I understood that, and it doesn't change what I said. I believe there is always room for change, for growth - and I am talking with the right support, not just tell her to BF and abandon her to do it on her own.

I believe, if she can find it in herself, with the right support,

>>> You missed the point entirely. Perhaps deliberately?<<<<

I am not deliberately missing points on purpose. I am reading and responding, disagreeing and debating. If you think I didn't get what you said, restate your point. Or don't. Up to you. Do you get the point I was making?

What do these little mean? I see them in your posts a lot.

>>>You've never heard of anaphylaxis? It can cause brain damage - if the child has a reaction so bad he cannot breath, going without oxygen can cause brain damage. Thought it was common knowledge. Sorry.<<<<

Do you have information on this related to infant formula? If formula causing brain damage is common knowledge and all.... the only one I can find is this one related to goats milk: http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/118785603/abstract This article describes anaphylaxis related to infant formula, but says get treatment right away so it doesn't lead to serious complications: http://www.drpaul.com/illnesses/milkallergy.html

>>>It's easy to be so magnanimous when you don't feel you have any health issues related to the way you were fed as a baby.<<<<

Maybe I did. That is my point. That is why I said bf'ing is known to reduce the incidence of my disease, and I know I was ff'd.... how I view it is my choice. I'm sure being magnanimous is easy for some and not others.

It's funny, my inclination when discussing these issues is to go back, back, WAY back, and think of these things prehistorically.

>>>i was beginning to wonder about that as well...<<<<

Beginning to wonder? I'm sorry if I'm missing the point, feel free to explain it again or in a different way.

The comparison is not formula to abandonment, it's putting Mom's happiness over child's needs, in both cases.
